Well, I am researching as of right now, and I have decided not to touch it with a ten-foot pole until I start hearing good things...lol www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,17228.0.html I have just started playing this again and enjoying it. As much as I'd like the fixes in that patch, I don't want to bork my game to get them. Oh, and while I'm at it, I found this thread (pre-patch) about weird crashing and saving issues. I'm mentioning this because Jill and I both have had weird save issues withing the past few days. www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,15623.0.html IMPORTANT!ALWAYS remove mods before installing patches/EPs! It's been that way since TS1! Mods are NOT supposed to be in the game, according to the game, so it makes the game go... WTF??? when it's adding new and changing files as it installs patches/EPs. It is also wise to make a backup of your TS3 folder, just in case something goes wrong! [/color]

My game took forever to save too, which is why I've only played twice.

It's weird, because it has never happened to me before yesterday. Of course I have just installed a pile of cc hair, which could be part of the problem. Before, all I had were a few small hacks...lol

Geez Louise. Does anyone know what CCleaner is? It sounds like a handy thing to remove corrupt files - similar to CleanInstaller for S2?

I use CCleaner all the time! It has nothing to do with the sims or any other game. It's a tool used to clean out bad registry files, etc. I've been using it for a couple years and haven't had any problems with it at all. The main things to know are to make a backup of your registry before you run it to clean that out, and to explore the program before using it the first time. It will clean out all your cookies if you leave that option on, even the ones you want to keep for not having to log onto websites everytime you visit, but there is an option to put the cookies you want to save into a list, so that they won't be deleted when you run CCleaner. You know what? I think I may just bite the bullet and backup my stuff and try this patch. It does contain a LOT of features I'm interested in having in my game. What the heck? If it screws me over, it's only ONE disk I have to reinstall....

Yesterday & today I have also had these problems, in my game, were I am in build or buy mode, & it will let me change colors ex cetera, but when I want to leave,or save it won't let me, & I have to reset my PC, or it has kicked me to my desktop, from the game! WTF is going on,yesterday I was way over tired to comment, as I had not had a proper sleep in two days(try three, now!sometimes, RL sucks, bigtime!) how is our games being infected with these problems? ??

I don't know, Karima. I have this wild idea that it has something to do with the release of WA and the launcher now wants us to get WA, or install the patch. It's an awfully funny coincidence for this to start happening to, not only us here, but others on different sites, I've just learned. Well, anyway, I have removed my mods/packages folder, backed up my TS3 folder, and have installed this new patch. *bites nails* Now I am going to fire up the game and see if she'll fly. Wish me luck as I head out across the new and possibly dangerous frontier!

I patched last night, but haven't opened the game yet. Now I'm off to work, so it won't be until tonight at the earliest. I thought the same thing. I ever had problem one until now, and I'd just put few cc hairs in, too. I thought I must've grabbed a bad one. Now it seems it was a "Welcome to WA" gift from the launcher! Lol! I'm anxious to see how the patch will affect our games...stupid work!

Man, I hope you backed up your stuff before patching! I had one helluva a time with this stupid thing! After patching, I opened my game to discover the last family I'd been playing... the one with my simself, hubby, and three tots, was GONE! That had also happened to me once before, but I backed up from the previous save. Once I went into my backup folder and took out the appropriate files, my family was there, but the music that plays during loading/buy/build mode was on and would not stop playing. Well then I remember my custom music folder and that someone had said to put it back to how it was before adding my own music, so I did and then the music stopped. The save I had to use for my family was from before the boys grew to toddler, so the babies were back. I had also taken my hacks and put them back in at this point. I told my sim to pick up and snuggle the baby and they 'jumped', with the baby ending up on the floor. They couldn't put them back into their cribs either. *sigh* Well, I used my head and figured it could be my no empty the potty hack I had installed, so I removed that and now the potty chiar overflows if you use it more than once, but they can interact with their toddlers. I grew the boys up again. They stayed babies for way too long as it is. This patch also changes the way the 'saved games' files work. Now, they are in folders with some other strange files. There is also a LEGACY file. I'm going to have to some research on this new developement. It never fails that as soon as I get familar with something, some dumbass has to go and change the way things work!

I didn't want the patch , but George brought me home the game last night, and in order to play it You Have To Install The Patch! The freaking thing took 20 min to install, and the game took half an hour!! Cool thing is now your able to recolor stairs, fences, and railings! But only the ones that come with the games! Phooey! I had just enough time to check out one house in China, and then I had to go to bed. I'm going to take some Pics, and post them for you all to see! Well I cleaned my house, so I'm off to get into my game, and see what kind of disaster awaits me!

Cool Lynda! Seems as you're the first here to get WA, congrats! I'm not getting until Christmas so my family will know at least one thing I want. The patch was annoying, but I am loving the new features like being able to recolor stairs, fences, etc. I could care less about the ones that didn't come with the game because, well, I don't have any! The main thing to remember when installing the patches, EPs, etc is to put your game back the way it was when you first installed it before installing the patches. I removed my mods/packages folder and the two camera hacks I had and it installed just fine. But, of course, I was sure to make a backup of my games first and that's a good thing. Wow, I'm excited about seeing some pics/hearing more details about WA, so... hurry up! Make sure to post it in a new thread so that no one misses it.

About the saving thing, It took half an hour to save my game last night! I finally got to bed at 1:30! That sucked! I'm now off to take some Pics! Wish me luck!!

Is anyone else having problems with the new patch? I get as far as the last step of installation and then it throws an error saying could not update...found an invalid sim3 file. What's that about?

Do you have any hacks/mods in place? If so, you need to remove those first, including replacing any camera mods you may have with the orginals.
I have read about others getting that error. If you'll follow the link I posted above, you will see others with that problem and the solutions offered.
What I have read to do is pay attention to the name of the file it says is invalid, and then go into your disc, find it, and replace the one in your game with the one from the game disc.
