 @flaming bag of poop! ;D If that stupid error pops back up, type what it says into the google search box and see if anyone else has had that problem and if there is a solution.  You are right. It's going on 1:00am and my eyes are getting blurry now...lol I hear my bed calling me.

That error message didn't pop up on the install after the defrag though. It was that install I tried CAS out on and had it freeze on me again. This is now the third install and second downloading of the updates, which take forever. Dh and I have tried to find a way to turn all of AVG off before and we couldn't find it. I give up.  It still turned off in CAS. |

That's crazy.  I really don't get what's going on there. I'd think it was because of your computer getting too hot if it did after a while of playing, but why it's turning off just in CAS is beyond me.  |

Hey...There are many antivirus programs that will not give a shut down option..The only thing to do is to uninstall it , make sure you know your activation key though... Gaming mode will semi shut it down , thats what it does, and will also not allow it to scan or update while you are gaming... AVE if it is lime most programs should have a Global Action List, that is where you can tell it to leave some installs or files alone, as you have deemed them safe..I do not know what AVG calls that option , or if that is actually your problem... BUT....It is strange that the sim plays fine , only in Sim build mode kills the game and powers off your computer... That means this....There is something in Create a sim mode that is causing the problem..And causing it so bad that it just kills the computer and skips a blue screen error alltogether... I suggest its a Video driver error, od a DirectX error..I suggest doing a clean reinstall of your vid card driver, and going then to Miscrosoft and updating your DirectX to the newest ..... Are you running Vista??? That is DX 10 capiable, and does the sime allow DX10 gameplay???/ I have no clue. Also if your vid card is Nvidia, go to add/ remove programs and uninstall , crap, forgot what its called..But it comes with the vid card drivers..I will got back to you with that name today... That would be the PSYHX driver...loose it ... If you ever reinstall the vid driver again, it will come back, as its part of the vid card driver..Just uninstall it again each time Do you know how to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of your vid drivers, using a driver cleaner in safe mode? Last resort google and download a program called HiJackThis..install it and run it, then post the report on their forums, with a description of your problem..The report will show them just what is going on with your software, and they can pinpoint what is causing this to happen... One last thing..... If you have miscrosoft set to update automayiacly , and have also selected for important AND other system updates ..that IS WRONG... Miscrosoft WILL update your video drivers...NO NO NO..Do not allow that..It can cause corruption..use only ATI or Nvidia ones, and never allow MS to update them.. Go to add remove programs(Vista calles it Programs and features,) an check to show all MS updates..LOOK for a driver update..if you find one..that WELL may be the problem... |

Harley you are talking to a complete computer dummy who has not the slightest idea on any of that. But hopefully Tina will come along and translate it all into itty bitty steps for me.
I think miscrosoft is set to update automatically. And yes it's 32 Vista. I think that sounds right. It's the lower number one anyway. I don't want to uninstal my antivirus. It plays sims 2 just fine and even sims 3 in the game, it's only CAS that is shutting it off.
I'll get dh to look over your post in the morning, it's bed time over here.

Poor Jo. This really sucks. I hope Harley has it figured out. DH is having a problem with an EA game I want to ask Harley about, too. I don't know what we'd do without Tina & Harley to straighten us out!

Wow, thanks for the info, Jill! I haven't had time to mess around with the plants too much yet. I'm trying to work on the quests, etc. I'm not using any cheats, so I only have time for about one quest per visit since I only have three days. My poor sim doesn't even have time for socializing. lol Makes me nuts that they have to wait a few days before they can travel again. My sim was almost at the end of a second quest in China when the stupid game sent her home...lol Dang Jo, sometimes all that stuff Harley spouts off about confuses me too...lol I feel unusually sleepy and tired today for some reason. I feel like it's still early in the morning and it's almost 1:00pm!  Maybe I'll be able to read over all that stuff after my afternoon coffee and be able to decipher some of it. |

Well I am in there.  I don't see anything called Microsoft Driver Updates in the list of programs. So I went to the side bar area and clicked on view installed updates because I don't know where else to look. I need more steps from Programs and Features to finding something called Driver updates. I still don't see anything called Driver Updates. I found the Driver under device manager and it says it's up to date. Umm really? Well why is it there then? This isn't going to stop sims 2 playing is it? Feels bad case of clickeitus coming on... All dh says is "I don't know" and "I don't like Vista" SOS Help Tina! |

Dh went online and did find a driver update even though when I clinked the thing on my computer it said it was up to date.

You could try updating your drivers. If you don't like it, you can always go back to the one you have now. That still doesn't explain why the game worked fine a few months ago and is not working right now though. Harley was thinking that maybe your computer automatically updated a driver or something and the game isn't happy with that. I'm still waiting for him to get home. He seems to be running a tad late tonight and I haven't heard from him like usual. A friend of his wife just died this morning after a long bout with cancer. he may be talking with the family. They asked him to be a pall bearer at the funeral, which may be on Saturday. |

Aww how sad. Well no rush. I was thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling again without updating. Although it crashed the first time and I hadn't updated then. I'll tell that web site to update the driver then. Edit: I downloaded it to my desktop. |

Yes, you want to have it show all Microsoft Updates too in that list...
Now you will see all your installed stuff along with your Miscrosofte updates all together in that one colume..
First look for Nvidia PHYSX..If you see that uninstall it..Its an added feathre excellerator for your video drivers and using your computer to view on a big widescreen TV loke a LCD or Plasme..You don't need it...
Next look in the list of Microsoft updates usually at the bottom of the list...Look for anything like DISPLAY DRIVER...If found uninstall that(you use nvidia or ATI drivers for your video card) NOT Microsoft...I found the Driver under device manager and it says it's up to date. That is your actual installed Video driver..Its for ATI or Nvidia, whichever you have Umm really? Well why is it there then? This isn't going to stop sims 2 playing is it? Feels bad case of clickeitus coming on... No it will not do a thing as stated above...All dh says is "I don't know" and "I don't like Vista" Vista is a great OS..Far superior to XP in some applications..i have Vista set up to look and act just like XP..Whats not to like? Ok, I have uninstalled the Nvidia PHYSX.
In the list under Programs and Features are a few Microsoft ones, they all say Microsoft Visual then there is one Microsoft Net framework and one Microsoft WSE and one Microsoft office home and student. That is all.
You didn't say about the update to the driver my dh found on the NVIDEA site.

Ok then...it seems that its not a microsoft driver update as you cannot find one...
YES..That is the latest Nvidia driver for your video card and operating system...
Go back to programs and features and uninstall your old Nvidia driver first......If you have an Intel Motherboard and CPU , once you select to uninstall that driver, you will see a pop up that asks what Drivers to uninstall..
JUST SELECT DISPLAY.......
Once done, reboot , and install the new driver you have...After that you will have to set your screen resolution and refresh rate again...
THEN...The new driver install will add the PHYSX again...So go back to Programs and Features and remove it again...LOL
Thats it..hopefully it will solve your crashing
