Weird thing with my game.

I find this very curious. A while ago, maybe a year or so, I noticed that NONE of the custom hair that came with base game or uni was showing up in my game. You know.. that platinum blond or the hair with the strange colors that came with base game, or those brightly colored pink/green spiked hairs that came with uni were there. It must have taken me so long to discover it because of all the downloaded hair I have in the game.

Anyway I figured that maybe something in my downloads folder was blocking it so I took out the downloads folder and loaded up the game/body shop and then there was NOTHING in cc bin! This really baffled me so... I decided to uninstall/reinstall the game. After doing all that, the hair was STILL not showing!

Not too long later, Bon Voyage was released and I noticed a combo pack that had Bon Voyage with the Sims 2 Deluxe and it only cost a few dollars more than just getting Bon Voyage so I got it. I thought maybe something was wrong with my original Sims 2 disc so I uninstalled again and reinstalled using the Deluxe disc and guess what? The hair was back! But....

I have now discovered that the hair has gone missing again. I don't know why and I frankly don't really care that much because I never really used those hairs anyway, but it just baffles the crap out of me and I'm wondering if I'm the only one or has it happened to anyone else as well? It also happened on Crissy's computer too so it's not totally just me, but maybe the household is jinxed or something.

WOW You did a lot to just check on some hair. To tell you the truth, I don't know if that hair is there or not.
Well it cerainly is NOT now, since I just recovered my compter... Actually NOTHING is there now....

Well I know Fuzzy's hair is there I would have to check see if the spiky ones are as I never use them.
You know having to uinstall and reinstall my game I pigeon hole with such things as drinking a litre of water before a scan, or cleaning my house all over, an MRI....or I don't know "Insert ugg thing here" things I would rather avoid. I can't believe you do it all the time!

Well I don't do it ALL the time, but I have done it MANY times! It's annoying and time-consuming, but it's just a thang....LOL. I just don't get it. I even tried replacing the skins package with the one from the disc and that didn't fix it either. I just can't see why or what would make the hair not show up.

I even did searches on Maty to see if anyone else has had that problem, but nothing came up. It bugged me so badly that I was tempted to post a question there, but I never did.

Well, I'm not desperate for the hair, but I AM desperate to know WHY this has happened. I'd also like to know if it's happened to anyone else besides me. It's like one of those unsolved mysteries and I HATE unsolved mysteries!

Lol my game always has those. I just go oh yeah havn't seen that action/object in awhile. heres a list for solving if yo want Sherlock.

1. Primp disapeard after BV I think. I got that back with a fix, but why would it disapear?
2. car whoohoo disapered. I shall have to check that to see if Al fixed it or nt.
3. My pool ladder is only a cc wooden one. When I click on the regular one nothing appears.
4. Glass dining table, same thing. I click and get nothing. There may be other objects I havn't noticed, but I miss that glass table!

It happens sometimes to me. Sometimes the ugly hair are there, sometimes they are not. Never tried to understand and like you I don't care at all But still a strange thing though. I thought my game was weird (okay I know my game IS weird hehe) now I think maybe my game isn't that weird after all

You know what I would love to disapear is all that ugly Maxis/Ea wallpapers that came with BV? Weird ugly stuff that nobody I know would put up in thier house. Horrid hair like cassandra Goth pony's, Horrid, horrid clothes like the elders see through bra top Oh my gosh, please make a bug so it all goes away EA! Leave my glass dinning table alone!

If only there was a bin avaiable for horrid maxis made junk.

I was always looking for that rainbow 'fro they showed in all the commercials. I never saw it once. Also, the rainbow mohawk. That one was there at first, then when I went to actually use it (long story) sometime right before or right after BV, it was gone. I'm not sure if it's there now or not. I know they're both maxis, but I don't know if they're "unlockables" or not. The whole unlockable thing is dumb - if I pay for it, then I want it!

You know what? It may have been after installing BV that I first noticed those hairs missing. EAxis has a very sloppy way of writing code according to Pescado, so it doesn't surprise me how often they break their own stuff! I mean... look how they overwrote their OWN NH downtown building with a new for AL? How damned careless was that?

Jo... I would lay big money on a bet that some of your problems are due to some CC over-writing other CC. It happens sometimes and if you don't check most new downloads soon after adding it, you never know what stuff could break others.

Hey Mae... I have a VERY good reason for suddenly caring about Eaxis hair in CC bin again. I have acquired some of the Sims 2 Store items and they have been 'decustomised'. I can see some things in hair bin, although they have NO cc star, or any logo like the rest of the EAxis hairs and are tucked away among the Eaxis hair. But there are certain ones that I don't see and I'm thinking they are considered 'Eaxis custom hairs' like the others I'm not seeing. Now I'd like to find a solution to my problem so that I could find out if that's why I'm not seeing them.

I kind of thought the object problems were from cc, but how to find it. I also have with the swings, you know how they are like colourd metal, well I have an old tree swing which overrides it. Now when I turn cc off like after instaling al and went into Bazza's pool, both the pool ladder and swing were back to the origanel. Peopole may not have noticed, but at the beginning it's an old tree swing then it changes to the colourd metal and the pool ladder changes to metal. Once I turned cc on, it stays that way with the maxis look unless I actual click on the item, then the only option under the key button is to change it to the cc look. I decided to leave the maxis look as I am sick and tired of that old tree!

P.s I am very tired of sticking keys but too bad lol so long as you can read it.

See? There is the problem not having an organized downloads folder causes. If you had sub folders, it would make your task of finding the problem much easier, but you can still find it. It will just take a bit of time.


A binary search is what you need to do. That just means cutting half of your downloads out and then pasting them to a new folder on your desktop called Downloads2 or something. Then fire up the game with only half your downloads in. If the problem is gone, then it is somewhere inside your Downloads2 folder.

So then you make another folder on your desktop and called it 'Clean' or something. Cut the entire Downloads folder out and paste in inside the clean folder and then put ' Downloads2 into the game, but remove the '2' so the game will see it. Fire up the game and see if the problem is, for sure, inside there. If it is, then close the game and cut those downloads in half, making a new 'Downloads2 folder. You just keep doing that until you narrow down the problem file.

Of course if was not in the first folder you tried, you simply switch it out for the one on the desktop.

It's always a GOOD idea to check and see if cc is working correctly before just tossing it into your game and forgetting about it. This is true for EVERYTHING that goes in, including hair, clothes, etc. You should always stick them a folder so that you can find them easily if you see they are broken.

Tina yeah it happened to me too. I was searching for the new sim store hair I downloaded and it took me a while to understand they were not considered as CC like the others.... I don't use maxis hair anymore hehe I don't know if they're all there though. I don't think so not that you mention it. I think the hair file contained a lot of stuff and I don't have that much in my game ... weird

Hey Mae, next time you open your game, I'd be totally grateful if you could scroll to the end of the cc hair bin and see if those Maxis hairs are still there or gone. It's just totally baffling to me as to why they'd go away. Most likely EA broke something.
