Yep, you can definitely rename them! Just make sure they still have the ".package" extension. I do it everytime I find one with that LONG string of numbers. I don't know what EA was thinking when they decided to use that method of naming. I guess because it lessons the possibility of something getting overwritten because of duplicate names... *shrugs* ;D Man, I'm SO happy that some of the stuff I've posted around this site is helping people!

Very helpful! I would exalt you but I already did ;D What about the ones with long 10902940829589015983 sort of names that when you click on them it doesn't preview pictures (did that make sense? nope!). Are they meshes or something?

Ack! Those get confusing, for sure. It's hard to tell what they are. They could be meshes because sims2pack clean installer doesn't show pics for meshes, but they could also be sims or something that ended up in your downloads folder for some reason, or something.
If you have SimPE, you are able to open them up with that to find out what they are. Sometimes you can somehow end up with empty packages in your downloads folder, but clean installer usually tells you if that's what they are.

Okay. I've heard of SimPE but I don't really know what it is. It sounds really big? Does it take up a lot of space?

It's like 30MB. It's not too bad, I guess, depending how full your hard drive is already. If you DO get it though, make sure to make a backup of you hoods before you mess around with it, just in case. SimPE makes its own backup usually, but I never trust that and like to make sure I have one made properly.
Usining it, and clean installer, I have rid myself of all those long, mysterious strings of numbers. I hate those things! lol

I don't know what I did but, you're welcome! Who's George? Another kid or dh? Either way, I know what you mean about not catching a break! Seems every time I think I'm going to be able to get busy doing a certain thing, something gets in the way!

Yes, George is her dh. Dylan's BD was Aug 6 or 7 - I want to say 6th. I don't have a clue how much cc I have, but I get bogged down with cc make up too! Every now & then, I try to clear out that & outfits that came with downloaded sims. Sometimes I download them for thier hair or face, but they're wearing a hooker outfit, or something terrible. There must be 10,000 pink blush shades out there, and at least 9,500 show up in my game! Lol!

Jilly, that's another reason the sims2pack clean installer comes in handy! If you open the file with that, it lets you pick and choose which stuff you want to install. I LOVE that utility and don't know how anyone can live without it!

That's what I had installed when the crash happened. I don't think that's what caused it, but it's like the last thing you ate before the flu hit you, you know? I still have bad memories. I was afraid that I had pulled out some cc that caused the game to crash, because I wasn't using it right.

That's a program, Jilly and has NOTHING to do with anything inside your game when it's running so there is NO WAY that it caused a crash. It just sits in your program files OUTSIDE the game and waits for you to open it up and use it. You'd be likely to have WAY less crashes if you used it when installing stuff into your game because then you see what's actually going in there. See my pretty downloads? The beauty of it is that when you open a sims2pack file with it, like the kind you download from the exchange, you can open it with the installer and actually see what's inside the package. I can put a pic of that up too if you want. It keeps hacks and other content OUT of your game that you don't want to have in there. You can even download houses with families and keep only the houses while keeping the family out.

No, I don't think it was the program - I think it was something I did with it. I think I had more highlighted than I meant to when I deleted. And whatever I took with it was something it needed to run right.

Well you DO have to be careful when deleting stuff...lol. But you can't delete anything that came with the game with it. It only shows what's in your downloads folder. So maybe you took out part of a download that went with something else so it got all borked up or something. What's really good about it is it if you have any duplicate files in your downloads folder, they will appear higlighted in pink and then you know you can safely delete ONE of them without losing anything. You wouldn't believe how much crap I had in my downloads TWICE the first time I looked at what was in there! Talk about clogging up a folder...lol
