I've put my neighbourhoods on hold for the last couple of days while I had a try at GoS's current Good Genes Challenge. My entry is here, and my final sim was Johan: He got quite a bit from his Dad, Ripp Grunt, but considering the sim the challenge started with, I'm very happy with the results!

He sure does look like Ripp, but you did a nice job of breeding out the original genes.

I think he got everything from Ripp except the awesome chin, just my luck! I'm probably going to put him in one of my neighbourhoods anyway though, I still need to make more sims.

Linda watched her eldest daughter confidently board the school bus outside their new house. She hoped the children at her new school would overlook the cheap Maxis brand clothes. It had taken all of their savings to move from the grungy caravan park into a real but small 2 bedroom home. Her husband Jake left for work as a council gardener shortly after the school bus. He didn't make much for all of his hard work, but he was bound and determined his children would have a better life, and moving here was the first step. Linda thought about calling her friend to look after her younger daughter Alice so she could go back to work as a maid, but the child had gone through quite an upheaval moving house so she decided to use her hard earned holiday leave to stay home for a few days until they had all settled in. Certainly Blue had taken a liking to the new backyard and sprinkler. Linda got a very welcome surprise to find her supervisor dropping in to tell her she was going to get a raise. Her daughter had come home from school with a new friend who didn't mind the tiny house or cheap clothes even though she was obliviously from a well off family. Yes moving here had been the best thing they had ever done. So Jake did come home from work with the flu which put a kabosh into everyones Saturday but otherwise things are looking a lot better for the Thomson family.

I uploaded a family to the GoS monthly sim theme, the main thread is here. These are all sims for my Steampunk Neighbourhood, so that's why Pearl's comments are very old fashioned. The sims were inspired by prompts, so I've got the prompt word, then its meaning, then the bio. 1. Luminary - "a person who is famous and important in a particular area of activity" George is the town Doctor, and has been for 40 years. He is training younger doctors to help him out; but he knows so much about medicine that his is still the name people call when they are feeling unwell. He's even been asked for by the town's robots recently, as his calm and efficient manner makes them feel better, although he doesn't know all that much about mechanics...yet. 2. Antediluvian - "extremely old-fashioned" Pearl isn't quite sure what to make of society, these days. Everything made so much more sense when she was an adult, less than a decade ago. Now everything has changed. There are robots everywhere, huge factories and machines making goodness knows what, there is no social etiquette whatsoever, and on top of all that, her daughter is wearing trousers. Trousers! Whatever next? 3. Anathema - "something that is strongly disliked or disapproved of" Rosanne doesn't know what her mother's so worried about. The world is fascinating! There's so much to do, so many people to meet and places to go, and so much to learn; it's a wonderful time to be alive. And no matter what decisions she makes, her mother will disapprove regardless...so she can just do whatever she likes, right? There are download links for them in the GoS thread, if anyone wants them.

Jo and Amy, those are both such great families! Amy, your steampunk 'hood must be such fun to find cc for. I'd like that part best, I think.

Thank you both! I really enjoyed making these three, the prompts really inspired me this month. Esme, it's fun to find cc for, but it's also frustrating when I know what I want but can't find it! Today it's been books. Finding something that isn't a modern colour and is big enough for a library is harder than I thought. Amazingly, I'm running out of Adult Female clothes already. Time to get some children in the neighbourhood, and use some of the clothing I have saved for them!

I uploaded my final two sims for the challenge, Felix and Tabitha. GoS post is here4. Meander - "(Of language, thought, etc.) proceed aimlessly or with little purpose" Felix loves to chat, and customers to his shop always leave feeling both pleased and bewildered after the constant upkeep of chatter, and the endless conversation changes. He is a great shopkeeper and a caring friend, but there does come a time when people need to say 'Felix, stop talking!'. 5. Threshold - "the floor of an entrance to a building or room" When you step over the threshold of the town Library, the first thing you see is Tabitha's smiling face asking "Can I help you?". Tabitha knows the location of every book in the library, and if you're looking for a reading recommendation, then you've come to the right person.

And a better shot of the library in the background of Tabitha's picture. Not finished yet, but it took me so long to place all those books, so I'm pleased with how it looks so far.
