Fun with Fotos!

OK, I'm starting this thread to illustrate how I 'play' in photoshop. No, I did not accidentally misspell photos in the thread title. I just decided to do a little play on words there.

I am going to be posting pictures I have edited, either for fun, as a learning tool, or for someone who wanted a picture edited, but didn't want to use it for whatever reason. Yes. I will be posting some of my favorite photoshop rejects here as well.

First, though, I did something today of which I am rather proud. I actually CREATED a rain effect in a picture! Yay! ;D I had to search around until I found exactly the right tutorial to get the job done as wanted it, and I finally did!

It may not be perfect, but I am very happy with it as a first attempt. ;D

OK, first up on the rejects lists is work I did for Jo. I had edited MANY pictures for story covers, etc before Jo requested my services. Lord knows, I love her, but I have NEVER dealt with anyone more picky than this woman from down under.

Jo wanted me to put stuff on this background:





One of those things was a gnome, wearing a swaggie hat, and holding up a jar of Vegemite. Well, she gave me a pic of a swaggie hat because I was saying Wha??? But the swaggie hat was too small and sitting at a bad angle, so I went and found a better one. She also gave me a pic of a jar of Vegemite, but it was too small to use, so I went on the hunt.



I made the pic and this is what I came up with: The gnome is actually holding the VERY FIRST jar of Vegemite, which I thought was really cool and sort of historical:






Jo, of course didn't like it. She wanted a modern jar of Vegemite, so I went and found one. She, also, didn't like the text, so I changed that too:





Jo liked the above pic much better, but... the 'D' was too 'squished'. So, I must have edited that damned 'D' about four more times before it came out to her satisfaction. lmao (I was really just learning all the ways to manipulate text and other things then.) Anyhow, below, you will see the now famous, final product! ;D

I knew it! I knew I was in for it! We better not forget that that lovely cover needs to be changed now either. Won't that be fun? ;D Thank you for all your hard work Tina. I do appreciated it.

You're welcome, Jo. You certainly put me through my paces! It's ok because it actually helps me to explore and learn things in the long run.

Speaking of that new cover, you should tell me soon what you want me to do with it, so that I can start working on it and have it ready for you whenever you're ready for it.





Now I'm going to post another one of Jo's rejects. It's a scene from The Mobacy. Lottie is snooping around Angel's basement. She trips and falls into a shelf containing an array of strange chemicals and potions. I placed a bunch of bottles around on the floor and created puddles to match. When Lottie falls into it, the potions begin to mingle and something strange begins to happen. Here is one of my rejected pictures of that scene:





Jo didn't like it because she wanted the smoke to look as if it were coming from Lottie, so I started more slowly...lol:






Photo reject #2 shows the smoke going past Lottie and thickening as she begins to rise.




Jo wanted it to look as the smoke were rising from Lottie, so I changed it so that the smoke sort of engulfed her before moving on and this is the result:



This was the first time I had tried to put this kind of effect onto to a picture and, as you may notice, I got better with practice. The puddle in that last picture most certainly looks better than in the one before it. I had fun playing with these and I think it came out pretty well end the end.

I've replaced my crappy pic with your fixed one in ch 5-A of my story. Much better. (of course, now I realize there's a problem with the pic above it, but I can live with that!! Lol!)

Well, I'm not sure if I can fix it perfectly, but if you PM it to me, I'd LOVE to see if I can make it look more like daytime. ;D

OK, I'm still sort of messing around with this rain creation thing and have taken my first 'solo' shot at it. In that first pic, I was following along with the tutorial, but in this next one, I did it all by myself. What do you guys think?

This is the original picture. It is a screen shot of my homeless simself park.




I rendered some clouds for the sky. Usually when I want clouds, I just find a picture of a cloudy sky and use that as a layer. These clouds are of my own making. After that, I followed the instructions I remembered from the tutorial and this is the result:



Who says there's no weather in The Sims 3? Or, does it look like crap and not rain at all? lol

I distinctly remember Jo saying something about changing from something to something in TS3 to get rid of grid lines and I asked WTF was she talking about? Or who was she replying to. Now, all that is gone.

Cut that out, People! It makes me feel like I'm going nuts or something!

Yep, it was that other person!


Here is one I made for Holley's lates chapter of her C to F story. I fixed a few pics for her, like changing some lighting, removing some thought bubbles, etc. then she ask me if I could remove the guy in the background on the far right of this next picture and then put him back in the picture from another one.



So, to get the guy in orange jacket out of the picture, I had to 'cover him up'. So I covered him up with pics of the windows, etc that are behind him and placed them on top of him, taking care to erase those parts that were behind the guy and all that. The picture Holley gave me to replace the guy was taken a further distance away, had parts of the guy on left in front of him, etc, so it was impossible to put him in the above picture. It was mainly the sizy because stretching it to the right size caused it to pixelate and blur. I could have doctored the other problems.

To make a long story short, I went into my game and took a shot of the townie I could use. I think it looks pretty cool, but apparently Holley didn't because she trashed it instead of using it. So, I'm going to show it off here.
