How do you name your sims?

I have SO many sims in my hood. Sometimes it was hard to come up with names for them. Simselves, of course, were not a problem, but ones I made myself, or that I downloaded from various places but didn't like the names, those were the challenges. I was really running out of ideas, when a friend unknowingly helped me out. She's someone who forwards all those annoying emails with a "message" - you know the ones. Anyway, she never cleans them up before she forwards them, so you see the names of the last 500 people this email was forwarded to & by. As I was opening yet another one, and scrolling thru the "forwards" for 10 minutes before I was able to get to the actual email, it struck me. Some of those people had really cool names. Now, I have a word doc that I keep on my desktop. When I get one of her emails, I copy/paste the cool names into that word doc, and when I make new simmies, I troll there for a name that fits.
How do you guys come up with names?

I have a lot of difficulty to find cool names. My sims have so many kids I don't even remember what I called the kids .... :s And I noticed that most of my sims frm various families have the same name because I give them names I like ...

I sometimes have difficulity with names too, especially baby names. I did a google search on names and found some cool websites with a few suggestions so I use that a lot. Sometimes, like in the case of Joseph and Shannon (first names only), I may see a movie that has people on it with names I like. Most other times, I just use whatever pops into my head at the time...lol

I have a baby name book.

Sometimes, I'll just flip it open to a random page and I'll choose from there.

If it's a story though, I want the name to match the personality I tried to create.

Well I bookmarked a baby name website but when I updated my browser it deleted all my bookmarks. And the other day I just wrote down the name of moons from every planet that has them which brings me to the total of about 150 or 173...something.

Great ideas, Everyone! I love the moon names, I wouldn't have thought of that in a million years! Having a baby book around is a pretty smart idea, too! Simmers are the cleverest people!

I use to use a baby name book, now I just look up italian baby names online for my legacy. I have never seen so many O and i ending names in my life!

Yea man, Google is my best friend! Whenever I want to know anything, I search there first...lol The moon name idea is really cool for aliens!

I also sometimes try to pick a name that will fit a character in a story. Like with the last name, Snidely. I thought it sounded sort of uppity and thought it would go well with Jospeph's mom's attitude in the story!

Well, the names were for my legacy but it doesn't look like it will get any further so I have 1 seventy something names that I'll never use...sigh

Is that the one that won't upload? Hmmm, Pixx, how many pages is it? Sometimes a story won't upload if there's too many frames. The stupid part is that it doesn't tell you so either. I had to break on of chapters of 'An Immortal's Dream' into two chapters before it would upload. And with another one, it was the lot that wouldn't let upload for some reason, I think.

oh hey that's probably it but I've seen stories with 120 or so frames. I'm probably going to delete the ones after Aries came to the house.

Maybe you can use some of your moon names for last names? That's what always got me. I could never think of the last names.

Well, I finally figured what I was doing wrong and just when my heir is expecting a kid...I loose my list of names!!!!

That sucks Pixx, since those would have been some cool names!

In my legacy, I've got a sort of naming theme. Sort of. It sort of goes off of the heir. So Ember, my founder, was a fire elemental, so her kids all had names that meant fire, or had fire in the meaning. Vanhi was fire, Ildri means fire and peace and Egan means little fire. Then Egan looked EXACTLY like his grandpa, who was a water elemental, so all of his kids had names for water. To do that, I just used a baby names website.

For other sims, I just look around my room. Well, mostly for pet names. I have a cat named Bic, who is named after Bic pens, lol.
