I had something very strange happen today.
A man I work with, who I consider one of my best friends, gave me chocolates and a valentine's card today. He was thoughtful enough to make it my favorite chocolate, and the card was suggestively funny. Although our spouses have never met, he is well aware that I am married, and I know that he is, too, with a young son at home.
It kind of bums me out that there is some weirdness between us now. He's one of the funniest, wittiest guys I know, and I really enjoy talking to him. Now I feel like I need to keep some distance between us. Am I over-reacting?
(he works on another floor, so we don't have constant contact)

Wow Jill, sounds like you've had a very interesting morning!

Whether you should make more of it than it may be would depend on what sort of relationship you had up until now and what exactly the card said. How long have you known him? Have there been any light flirtations before now? What did he say when he gave the stuff to you?

We joke around all the time, but never really in a flirty way. He got here early and snuck up to my cubicle to put the stuff on my desk before anyone came in, so I'm sure people know I have it, but hopefully not who it's from. (that's all I need is rumors!)
The card is pretty funny... the cover says:
"Here?" she whispered to him sweetly.
"We're alone" he said discreetly.
"I've been good till now!" she sighed.
"But you're human!" he replied.
"It's so big!" she hesitated.
"It's all yours!" he proudly stated.
"Oh, I shouldn't!" she protested.
"If you love me-!" he suggested.
And so, losing all resistance,
she gave in to his insistance...

(and inside it says)
...And ate every single chocolate in the box!
Happy Valentine's day!

He signed it,
"I saw this and just had to get it for you! Happy V-Day"


I've known him for a few years, and he's never done anything like this before. It's the thoughtfulness that's bugging me the most. If we were both single, the thought that someone would know me well enough to choose a card like that for a writer, and make sure to get my favorite chocolate, would send me over the moon. I don't think I've ever gave the impression I was open to something more than friendship, and I never had the slightest impression he felt that way.

Very interesting . . . If I were you, I wouldn't know what to think either. But, the best thing to do for now is to play it by ear, I think. If you go on as if it never happened, you can wait to see how he acts the next time y'all speak. Something like this could bear watching for sure.

Sheesh, nothing that exciting ever happens to me!

Interesting this should happen today - the girls I work with had 4 men between them declaring their love for them! Valentines weeks, hey?

This guy sounds interesting though, I agree with Tina that you should wait and see what happens, and it is definitely the thought that's gone into it all that makes it stand out. Hmm, this is a difficult one.

I'll definitely take your advice & just act like it's no big deal. I'd hate to think he's not the person I thought he was. I have a lot of respect for him, and I wouldn't respect him if I thought he was a cheater.

Playing it cool for now is the best thing to do, I think. It will be interesting to see if his demeanor changes after this. Of course you know you will have to give us some follow-up reports on the matter, don't you?

I saw this on the last 25 post thingamy and though Jilly's started another blog story. Until I read it further! Gosh yes, I would be somewhat uncomfortable about that.
It's too hard for me to scroll without a mouse right now. The arrow wont budge the page. Excitement when I am away!

Oh man, I can't stand using a laptop without a mouse! I always have to connect one when I'm using my laptop. That little scroll pad irritates the crap outta me!

I have the mouse now, but I grabbed a few minutes this morning and didn't know where it was. Front pocket of the laptop bag apparantly. I still don't like using a laptop though.

I know, it was so strange that they all chose Friday to tell them. The girls they admire are single, but the guys aren't, um, the pick of the bunch shall we say. It's been a very interesting couple of days at work, and I made sure to loudly talk about my boyfriend all day to make sure no-one got that idea with me!
