Thanks for the information Harley. Unfortunately I can't give permission to send this computer to you or I would if it was mine. My son will be here this Thursday and I'll have him read what you said and then see what he will do . By the way, the battery now is always fully charged, but when my son had it he said he had a hard time keeping it charged to full capacity even if he shut it off. I also did what you said and their are no yellow or red icons showing for the CD/DVD-ROM drive. So what should I do now? I also think you are right about the heat related issues. It seems to give me more problem with shutdowns the longer I have it on, so I try not to keep on too long for right now and let it sleep or shut down for awhile. Please let me know what you think. I also checked out your siggie ad and I read the information on it. It sounds like you know what your doing and it seems to be very professional. I would send this laptop to you if it were mine. I will let you know on here what my son says when he comes and then let you know in this thread. Thanks again for the advice and information and the offer to fix it. It would be worth the postage just to get it fixed and working properly again!

To solve the heat related issue, typically most laptops need to be almost 100% taken apart to get down to the motherboard and properly clean it and /or remove the CPU heatsink and reapply thermal paste...Its not that difficult, just have to really know what you are doing..It can take up to 2 hours to do, and at 65 bucks an hour can be costly at the wrong shop, expecially as many will do nothing and charge you and say too bad if it happens again...lol (cause they don't know how to do it in the first place)
The battery never charging sounds like a DC power pin problem on the mother board. They are the most abused area of a laptop, as the cord hangs off the comp attached directly to the motherboard..This repair typically costs 160 bucks including shipping off to a company that has the tools to properly undo the cold solder that attached the power jack to the motherboard...At this point its best to conside the cost of the computer, to the cost of a new one, as to weather its cose effective to fix it or just replace it..
Some times the only fix is to reload the operating systen to get a DVDRW drive to be seen..Its just corruption of the operating system and its drivers....Another solution is to purchase a removeably DVDRW drive , for about 40 bucks, but its cheaper and better to reload the operation system, as you get the comp back new and fresh and ready fore more abuse...lol ( this is a 45 dollar service I do and that includes saving and replacing back all documents and pics , etc) Best Buy charges 199 bucks for this, not includindg saving your data) I do about 4-5 a week ...lol
Hope this helps.

My computer is old for a computer I guess... 3+2=5ish years? I've already gone through a harddrive since then, and I need a new graphics card for sure, probably a power supply, new motherboard while I'm at it because it's so outdated. And appearantly the pins for my harddrive are outdated too, I still run on IDE, not SATA. And it's a little slow and too noisy for my liking, like needing to turn the tv volume up about 5 clicks, RAM needed... Ugh, too many problems.

;D Hi, Mason* Waves enthusiastically!* What have you heard about the 'i3'? & what is this new chip that Microsoft are scared of? ??

The i3 core is very weak for gaming...its more a good quad core chip for multitasking .... Same for the i5...but the best now out for gaming is the i7 920....(for price and overclocking potential.)
I am unaware of any new chip they are scared of...Their latest...The 960 AMD black was a failure...Is that what you are refering to.
The other teck news in the new Clarksdale(think its called that) is due out soon..Next month..Its Intels newest and fastest 6 core chip...With a price tag that starts at a grand...lol

;D Yes the AMD is the one they were scared of!!! A core 6! WOW! I wish I could afford that, but that would mean upgrading everything else to support it! And I am going to sit back for a while,I will just be content with what I have for now! I will put up with my (Two!) duo PC's!

The New AMD Blacks are not really new anymore ..Almost a year old..while they are great performers, the still lag behing Intel in all but price. The new Clarksdale Cor 6 will never be needed for older games..Most older games are coded to run on a singl core CPU..Patches in games allow then to run better on all core 2 duos...Games only run textures now on all Quad cored thru service packs and game updates if avaible... So forget about the new Core 6 for gaming..Most games still run great on core 2 duos or quads.... ;D Yes the AMD is the one they were scared of!!! A core 6! WOW! I wish I could afford that, but that would mean upgrading everything else to support it! And I am going to sit back for a while,I will just be content with what I have for now! I will put up with my (Two!) duo PC's!

Tina, I'm jealous of your monitor. 24 inches, and it SWIVELS! ! I'm pretty content with my computer. It would be nice to have a better video card though. I have the NVidia 9500 GeForce.

Harley, If you can tell what the shipping costs are and send the information to me by PM , also let me know if their is a special way you want me to ship the laptop to you and who with, my son says he will pay for shipping for you to fix his laptop for free, which is a deal. If there is any cost for anything that has to be done to it that exceeds what you can cover or if it has to be sent out, let me know and Tim says he will cover those charges as well. Please PM me with the information. Thanks! ;D
