I want to kill my satellite company! Although it isn't their fault, our signal got blocked during a storm and I missed the last fifteen minutes of 'Ghost Whisperer'! It was a very interesting one too.

I'm on wireless because there is only ONE phone jack in the whole house. My laptop works perfectly for the internet, but the PC, the one I use MOST is so temperamental.
I have no idea why, but sometimes it works really well and other times it's sooooo slow. We have DSL through AT&T so it should be FAST!

Slightly off topic...I've been banned from MTS2!!!! How does that happen? I've never posted a word there! I try to go to the site, and a get a message that says my ISP address has been banned from the site. That's all it says. I sent an email to ask what was going on, but haven't heard a peep.

Hi All,

We get only a few kinds of questions being emailed to us, some of
which are outlined below:

1. My IP address is banned / Why have you blocked me / I can't get
onto your site?! Help!

MTS2 is a big site, and we get the occasional spammer, troublemaker
and general neer-do-well visiting. We try and deal with these people
in the usual ways - deletion of threads and posts first, then
warnings, followed by individual site bans. However, if somebody
continues to spam, or otherwise break the rules, and does so with
multiple accounts, often we have no choice but to do a site-wide ban
of the IP address or range of addresses that person is using.

What does this mean for you? Simply that we usually start by banning
indivudal addresses - ie of the person involved. If they are using
dynamic addresses or try using proxies, then we will start working
"upward" in the chain, progressively banning more and more addresses.

Sometimes we end up banning large sections of ISPs (internet service
providers) in order to stop continued attacks on our site.

The chances are that any such IP ban is *not* directed at you
personally, but there is also a very *small* chance of it being
removed. IP bans are rarely lifted, since otherwise that leaves us
open to attack again.

We apologise for any inconvenience, but we have to do so to safeguard
the safety of the entire site as a whole, and sometimes that means not
allowing a few people on the site. We hope you understand.



WTF? So now, even though I never posted a thing there, I can never download from there again? I can't even look at stuff there.

Well that totally sucks, Jill! That means it could happen to any one of us if someone within our IP address range causes so much trouble that it makes them to an IP ban. That really bites.

If it wasn't like my favorite site, I wouldn't care. I don't know if my work pc allows downloads. It won't let me burn music into the library or on disc, although it lets me play discs. If it allows downloading, I guess I could just download right to my flashdrive and bring them home to install. I have a feeling they set it up so we can't download anything at work.
I'm so mad. I just don't understand what happened or why.

*big hug* I'm sorry... I'd be pretty darned livid too! Most sites do everything in their power to avoid IP bans because it's impossible to keep it from banning innocent people as well. I guess someome was really messing with MTS2 to make them take such meaures.

Anyway, I know something you can do:

Surf the site at work if you can and if you see something you want, just PM the link to me and I'll download it for you and then upload it so you can get it. It's not the greatest, but it is a solution.

Gosh Jill I just read what you posted about being banned from MTS due to your IP area. That bites! I'm always getting stuff from there.
