What makes you lurk?

Okay, this is quite possibly a lame attempt to draw out some you folks who pop in and never or rarely post anything. But...

it is also for everyone else who, from time to time, pops in without posting anything. It even happens to me on occasion.

Once in a while, I will stop by and then leave without posting because I only had a few minutes to spare and I used it all up replying to PMs that I had received while away. Other times, as soon as I get here, something pops up here that makes me have to drop my 'browsing' of threads to take care the issue. Sometimes, I pop on only to notice that no one else has posted since the last the time I did and I can't think of anything new to say, so I just go away again. So...

What is it that makes you 'lurk' instead of posting?

Usually I lurk because the topics have deviated so far off the original subject I don't know what to say, I can't think of what to say, or I just don't feel like typing.

Well, I personally have not been posting much, & manly reading the threads or stories of others, & when I answer I just keep it short & sweet, as I DO have a tendency to waffle a bit, & as my advice is never right!(even though I am telling someone how I fixed the same or similar problem) I just stopped posting! I have gone back to playing again! like before I had the Internet,which as I said before I have had since early 07,(the net!) I am also upset that the Sims3 says that the only way to customize it is through the game, I bet the modders will prove them wrong, & why the @#%$ did they ask the people of TSR to the mod camps!?!? when there is greater people whom have corrected the problems that EAaxis created in the first place! these people are the ones whom should have been asked ! what! are they scared of them??

Lets see.... I don't consider myself to be a lurker. To me that is someone who has belonged to a place for awhile and never posts or has like 10 posts over the course of a year.

But I don't always feel like posting because
1. I come on first thing in the morning and usually feel too tired except to read and drink coffee.
2. I don't know what the heck the last few posts are about.
3. I don't feel I have anything to post about on a particular subject. Such as American Idol.
4. Occasionally (not here) I read controversial threads. These I never post on. I use to love debates...10 years ago, these days I stay right out of them. I enjoy talking to a wide range of people and would like to keep it that way.
5. Sometimes I don't have time to both read and post.

Awww, Karima, I wouldn't say your advice is NEVER right. Besides, this site is here for the purpose of sharing ideas and offering solutions for problems. No one is ALWAYS right. It's good to discuss thoughts and ideas in order to weed through the crap and get to the truth. As far as waffling a bit goes... waffle away woman! I like when you're posting and having fun. Most of your posts give me a chuckle and make my day...lol. Don't let The Sims 3 rumors get you down. Do like I am and take a 'wait and see' approach.

@jo! Well, I tend to agree with #1! ;D As for #3, make some new threads, Woman! I'll post replies no matter what they're about. I know what you mean about the controversial threads. I like to read them, but I usually don't like getting involved in them. I'm too darned old and tired to debate much! hehehe...

I lurk because these days if threads go on for a long while I don't have anything to say or because if it's on a topic like a problem with the Sims 2 I can't answer because I am still fairly new to the community. -Shrugs-

I'm not that much of a "post new thread" poster unless I need help (ack way too often!) Or I have a story or pic spam to show. I tend to be more of a replier.

I've been reading like mad, trying to catch up on everyone's stories, so it'll appear that I'm on, but I'm not looking at the threads. By the time I'm done reading, I have to get off & do stupid crap like make dinner.
