Oh my gosh! I have been having trouble in school lately, like day dreaming and not focusing in class.I seem to tune out what the teachers say to go off to my world. So,one day,my English teacher sent me down to the consolers(she didn't know what to do with me anymore). The counselor asked me all these questions (I rather not get into too much detail with that) but I answered all of the truthly. So,I went home that day, happy as could be that i could play the sims again. But everything turned upside down when the counselor called. *Deep breath* My mom was almost yelling in the phone. She slammed the phone down and she marched right into my dad's computer room. She was piratically yelling so my sisters and I heard everything. Apparently the counselor thinks I have ADD. She can't say that about me! That's the doctors job! And I'm only being a typical teen. I'm sure every teen out there spaces out every once in a while! This isn't fair! The teachers said that I had ADD when I was in kindergarten! But you know what? That when my four year old German Shepard got ran over by some jerk, three months later my 20 year old aunt died of heart disease and two months later my grandmother died of lung cancer! Oh, I might as well add that my parents weren't living together at the time .I DON'T have ADD. I just have a lot on my mind. OK,I got that out of my system.I'm sure all of you space out every once in a while..right? Right? C'mon people,I need to know that I'm not the only one with "ADD". Stupid teachers. They know nothing about me.NOTHING!!!!

Hey, I'm sorry that happened to you. I can see how it may be a bit upsetting too. I mean, a counselor cannot diagnose you, but I guess he has the right to state an opinion. Whether you have ADD or not, it isn't the end of the world and just because someone said that, it's no reason to have a stroke... I've never been accused of having ADD, although I do have my 'spacey' moments...lol. I don't think the term 'ADD' had been invented yet when I was a kid or my brother would have likely been told he had it because he liked to spaceout and daydream at school too. I wouldn't worry too much about what one person says. Besides, even if you DO have ADD, it's not the end of the world and you most certainly are not the only person in the world who has it. Sure sounds like you had pretty rough time of it for a while there, kiddo, with all that stuff going on. *HUG*

Thanks for the hug. I'm just mad because i had the same problem in kindergarten and it's starting up again! I know it isn't the end of the world.I'm jst upset that these people think i should go to the doctor for something i don't even have.*Sigh* oh well,i'll live either way. still, the teachers know nothing about me. NOTHING

The worst part Haily is all but one little boy that my son gets on the bus with, is on some kind of medication for ADD! I personally think the teachers & parents do not want to deal with children, or young adults! To me this is a shame. And Haily, my son Dylan is only 7.

I'm fourteen. My mom doesn't want to drug me unless she's sure of it.The teachers think that she should drug me so that i can "focus" better in school. I wouldn't know if that would affect me in any way shape or form or not! And Kelly,I agree.Sometimes I do think that parents or teachers don't want to deal with us. It is a shame.

They tend to slap 'labels' on everything these days. Haily, you never really know if something is wrong with you if you don't go to a doctor to find out. Then sometimes you still don't know because doctors don't know everything either. Heck, they are making me have take a test for something I KNOW I don't have... TB. They are doing before letting me start taking this new medicine I'm suppose try even though they don't if it will work for my condition. *sigh* Life is full of unforeseen twists and turns and we just have to roll with them.

there seem to be an epidemy of ADD here. they give kids a drug called ritalin and I swear almost all kids take it. I think they force them to take it at school even if the parents don't want to. but what you say seems strange I mean all of us daydream at school, gosh it's so boring! I wish things will get better for you!

I probably have ADD as does my daughter, but I was never diagnosed. Someone mentioned hyperactivity to my parents and to take me off yellow colouring when I was about 10. That was about all that ever came out, but you know this was back in 1976 lol you just lived with stuff back then. It's not the end of the world. If you do need help staying focused something to squeeze helps my daughter.

Chewing gum helps me a lot but the problem is that they don't allow students to chew gum in my school. And I'm scared of the doctors.Gives me the creeps everytime i visit there. *Shivers* school is boring. i mean,i probably don't even have the symptoms for ADD. All I do is day dream!! If that's all you need to do to make people think you have ADD,I bet that everyone in my school has the same problem!

Well yes you do need more symptoms then that. Schools are very quick with wanting to slap ADD labels on kids these days. Mostly I believe because they expects kids to act like adults from the time they are 5.

I have ADHD, but nobody believes me on it because I've learned to control it myself.
When I went in to talk to the Dr about it, she said it's not possible for me to have ADHD BECAUSE! I have good grades and more than one best friend... Yeah, great diagnoses there Dr....
Don't sweat about it, seriously. Spacing out does NOT equal ADD, I know that for sure.
One easy symptom that is a bit odd, is extra sensitivity to the simplist things, like a teacher yelling or parent yelling equalling instant tears, even though you emotionally don't feel that.

I know! It's sooo confusing. The teachers sent more notes tonight telling what I possibley have.Mom wouldn't tell me what they were but I heard her say, "She doesn't have any of these!" *Sigh* My school just doesn't make sence.I need to see if I can read that note behind my mom's back...the curiousity is killing me...

Teachers are not experts in teen or children psychology. Definitely! I have a worse teacher/Vice Principal/Counselor story that happened at my school, but I'm not feeling comfortable with revealing it so open on a board.

I agree. They think they know EVERYTHING about teens since they work with them. Well, they don't! That's for sure! Maybe the teachers are brain washed...
