I will never understand this no matter what else ever happens in my life, but it seems that every stray cat that ever gets abandoned in this neighborhood ends up hanging around OUR house! I have actually gained a cat or two because of this, but now I already have THREE cats and sure do not want another! Besides the TWO cats that are hanging around now, are not the overly friendly sort. They are full-grown and fairly big and when you talk to them, they run from you. Yet.. they are hanging around our house... crying! They get under our carport at night, which is right outside the girls' bedroom windows, and create all sorts of racket, keeping them awake at night. Now they are walking around in the daytime... crying as well. Obviously something is wrong with at least one them because a cat, to my knowledge, doesn't walk around crying constantly if something isn't wrong with it. People are always moving out of this neighborhood and leaving their cats behind. I just don't understand doing that either. I don't know if that is the case with these cats and they are afraid of strangers, or if they are truly wild. One is yellow (the crier) and one is black/white. The black/white one was on our front porch this morning when I went out to go grocery shopping. It ran off the porch and under my SUV. I stood there talking to it for a few minutes, but it only lay there looking up at me. When I started the car, it took off thank goodness. Sheesh... I just wish they'd go somewhere with their crap.

;D one of the houses I lived in had that problem but it was all my fault people knew in that area that I am a big animal lover so they were dumping them at my house rather than taking them to the pound

Well that sucks and it just ain't right. I'm a big animal lover too and I can't stand it when people just don't take care of their pets.

I heard that! Well all three of my cats are indoors only. It's very much safer that way since another stray that came along, which we grew to love very much was shot and killed by a neighbor. We could not force that cat to stay indoors for anything so he came and went as he pleased. He wandered over to the wrong place at the wrong time and a drunken neighbor actually shot him! He was one of the sweetest, friendliest cats that ever lived and he didn't deserve such a fate. Turns out that guy was a convicted felon and had no business even having a gun in his house in the first place. We pressed charges against him and he ended up having to pay fines, etc. He's supposed to pay us restitution as well, but we haven't gotten a cent yet. It doesn't matter to me though because it won't bring boots back.

:'(Here, in Australia, he would have gone to jail, as we are very serious about cruelty to animals & you are right it never brings back the innocent cat that no amount of money can replace

My favorite cat was a stary, but yes we have two so could't take any more. I would call the RSPCA or whatever your animal protection society is called.

People here are horrible to cats, my neighbors had like 6 cats and they moved and left a fluffy persian/siamese looking one behind, and it's lived on it's own outside for 2 years. It sleeps on our hottub lid in winter to stay warm and is always around our house, eats my dog's food. It's actually the one who caused him to lose his eye (progressive thing, explained in the animal pic post). We talked to the vet and he said he'd put it down for free to end it's misery because it's so lonely and afraid of people. We had another kitty hanging around here for a while, it was a cute, sleek black one, but it got attacked and had a huge open wound near it's ear... Somewhere it disappeared, maybe back to it's owners, maybe dead. I feel bad for all those stray cats.

I want a puppy. I'm a dog lover and if I could I'd probably collect all the stray dogs in the neighborhood.

Oh what a sad cat story Nicole1 There was a stray hanging out around here a few years ago, a very pretty and friendly black cat. The girls named him Salem, after the cat on 'Sabrina, the Teen aged Witch'. We used to feed him outside and go out and pet him, etc. One day he got into a fight with another cat or something and ended up with a bad wound on his ear. I think infection spread and we eventually found him lying dead in our neighbor's yard. I felt SO bad that we didn't take him to the vet or something. That's why when Boots came along, we decided to actually take him in and take care him. He ALSO got into a fight and got injured and we DID take him to the vet. Darned strays end up costing us a bunch of money. Jo, we DID call our animal control office. That's how we found out the guy's name, etc, only he LIED to the animal control officer, but our other neighbor knew the guy's name so we figured it out and then looked him up on-line and found out he had been convicted of a felony. Karima, I wish our laws were like that. The ONLY reason this guy got in as trouble as he did was because he had a gun in his possession when it was against the law.
