I am not even sure where to post this on my own board so that more people will notice it, so I'm just going to stick it here.
This is pretty much in reference to Jo's 'computer dummy' excuse whenever it comes to doing something on your computer/in your game files. If you NEVER try to learn by doing a thing or two, you will ALWAYS be a 'computer dummy'! I have a bit of a confession to make:
Until March of 2000, I was a total computer dummy. I had never even touched a computer and I was scared to death of the card catalog at the library because it had become computerized. Near the end of 1999, I learned of this new band, Savage Garden, and I became completely entralled with them, but there was not much info about them anywhere, exept online. So we finally decided to 'go modern' and get our first computer. Harley was a computer dummy too!
So, we got connected and I spent a LOT of time online searching for info about my new 'obsession'. Along with that, I read and learned things along the way about computers and soon I began to feel really silly that I had been afraid of them for so long. Heck I opened up all kinds of files/folders on the computer just to see what was in them. I had no clue what I was looking at, but I knew as long as I didn't really 'touch' anything, I could not hurt it.
Since then, because of reading things, carefully following tutorials, etc and just general curiosity, Harley and I both have learned MANY things about computers. Lack of knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Many of you are screwing up your games/making it glitchy because you have NO CLUE exactly what is inside your downloads folders. Don't be afraid to learn/try to get things straight and keep them in order so that you KNOW what is going on with your computers.
We have had several problems with our computers that have been resolved by doing Google searches for answers. I have learned one thing: if you have a problem, there is a GOOD chance that someone else has had that SAME problem and has found a solution. You can't be afraid to let yourself try to fix a minor thing if it is broken. It's a good way to learn and guess what? They made 'system restore' for a reason. Usually if things don't work out so well, you can restore your computer to an earlier time and things (except anything in your documents folder) will return to exactly the way they were before you messed around.
In short, if you carefully follow a reliable, well-thought-out tutorial to the letter, it usually turns out very well. When it does, you will be so proud of yourself for giving it try.
Ah well, end of confession/speech. You guys may be 'computer dummies', but you are not dummies by any means and I have confidence that you can learn new things if you'll just let go of the fear.
