See, I just hate it when people join one of my forums and never bother to introduce themselves. Generally speaking, when they don't that means that they either plan on spamming the site or that they signed up accidentally (how on earth does that happen anyway?). Nicole has been bugging me to sign up here, and since I'm "back" I figured that I'd go ahead and give it a try. Just a warning: I do NOT get along well with proboards and I tend to hit "send" before I mean to, then have to go back and edit. Go figure!
Anyway, I'm Devin, know on my own Sims forum as Becki, which is my real name. My other two forums nobody knows my real name. I also am a moderator and reviewer at The Admin Zone (great place to be and to work, too!). I have a husband and an almost-one year-old daughter. My husband is currently out of work, which means that I'm being driven crazy by hubby and trying to take care of baby and websites at the same time.
I am a writer by "profession" though it has been many years since I had something published (voluntarily -- a couple pieces got stolen). I don't do a whole lot of sharing so when I do it means something.
My hobbies include (like Nicole) needlecraft of various sorts, including making stuffed toys (teddy bears) and quilting. I enjoy movies on occasion, some television, and am particularly fond of web-design and forum management. Writing isn't a hobby, it's a job. I don't enjoy doing it, but I don't hate it either. Sometimes it's relaxing.
I blog.
I'm 29 years old and that's way too old for my tastes. I wish I could be sixteen again like my comrades. Too bad we can't turn back the clock. I'm not normally so morose, but my mood has been low lately. I quit smoking last Wednesday and it's still kicking my posterior end.
I'm not really sure what else to say about myself... I have six cats? I don't know if that's interesting information to give anybody, but I do. Six cats, a husband and a daughter. And we're considering getting pregnant again this month!
I guess that's it...

Well hello! I'm glad you introduced yourself. ;D It's great to have you here. (Thanks Nicole!) Pro boards is sort of a strange system, I'm discovering. I just discovered today that once you sign up, you can edit your birth date if you happened to screw up while registering. But it's a pretty easy system so I'm happy enough with it. Anyway, thanks for coming and I hope you find it a fun, friendly place to hang out whenever you have time!

Welcome to the site, Becki! You sure don't have good luck with things being stolen. I feel bad for how crowded your house would be, I can't imagine that. And to wrap this up... Good luck on keeping away from smoking and I hope your life settles down soon.

There are good things about proboards and there are really bad things. Unlike most free servers, if you decide that you want to move to your own domain, you *can't*. The only reason that we wound up having to start over from IF is that I couldn't get in touch with the person I wanted to talk to and I got mad. Oh, well.
Did you see that I moved it again? LOL! I love the new look though and I'm ridiculously happy with what I did. I love SMF, and I didn't like it when I first installed the board, so we're good. We lost about a thousand posts that I deleted out of the staff discussion (I never knew there were so many posts there!) but other than that our conversion went great.
Yeah, so, proboards. I love the way that the forum can *look* but all in all it isn't the best system out there. I've used it and hated it. If there's something out there, to be honest, I've probably used it, free, paid, licensed or linkware, I've used almost everything on the market. If you aren't planning on growing particularly large, proboards is fine. The biggest problem that you're going to have is that if you have a writing site up for long enough, it has the potential to get pretty big.
Good news is that of course if you maintain a close enough relationship with your members, they go with you when you move. Like mine did lol

Welcome, Becki! Sorry to hear your stuff got stolen - that's terrible! I also quilt & love to make toys. I made many rag dolls, sock dolls, etc, and the tons of clothes that go with that! All my little girls have grown, so I don't have anyone to make dollies for anymore. I hope you like it here! Good luck with the smoke-less future & the baby-making!

Wow, I didn't realize your site had moved again, Devin. I was just there right before Thanksgiving I think and didn't read anything about it on there. I'm glad you like your new place now though. I opened this place mainly because someone else asked to co-admin her site, but she lost interest and stopped coming around it and then came one day and did something that stripped what little powers I had already and then said she couldn't figure out how to fix it. So I decided to see just how difficult it was and clicked on the 'get your own free message board' link...lol. Well, I found out it's NOT rocket science. So then I began inviting friends here from the bbs and... here we are! ;D I'm figuring it's not likely to grow into something huge, at least not for a while. Hopefully not because I'm running the place all by myself at the moment...lol So far, I'm pretty good buds with most everyone here (the ones who post anyway) so hopefully if I do ever have to move, they'll follow me. I like it because it's a place where all my net buddies can get together and hang out since posting on the story board at the bbs is a dangerous thing for the ratings of one's stories these days. Again, it's nice to have to here with us!

No, it really isn't rocket science unless you get into creating your own scripts or skinning certain types of forum. SMF and phpBB are both really tough, Proboards, IPB and I *believe* vBulletin are all relatively easy to work with in terms of the look of the site. I'm trying to skin one of my other sites now and I feel like I'm going to explode! LOL!

Well, I don't get into any of that 'heavy' stuff or I WOULD explode! I feel for ya... The most I do is try out other people's ready-made codes to see what I can break. lol
