Hi guys Just realised there was a non-sims literature section here, so I thought I'd post this and see what people think of it. I've already posted it over on boolprop, so you may have already seen it if you're a member there.
So... I recently started writing again after years and years and flippin' years of writers' block. Anyway, I sat down at my computer a while ago and this is what happened an hour later. It's called Mary-Ellen, and I started out thinking it would be a song but now I think it might be a little long for that, so perhaps it should just be a poem instead. Anyway, I hope you like it
Mary-Ellen
Mary-Ellen didn’t go to school today;
She wasn’t feeling quite right.
So she went down to the riverside
And she dreamed the day away.
Mary-Ellen dreamed about the one she loves,
The one she’ll marry someday.
He’s got big blue eyes and when he smiles
He makes everything okay.
Well Mary-Ellen, don’t you think,
That you and Johnny must grow up soon?
Mary-Ellen, if I were you,
Then here’s what I would do...
I’d say “Johnny won’t you sit with me
Underneath that old apple tree?
We’ll write our names in a circle,
And then together forever we’ll be...”
Mary-Ellen is a sweet sixteen today;
She’s got flowers in her hair,
And she’s smiling just ‘cos Johnny’s there
And dreaming of what he’ll say.
“Mary-Ellen, you’re so very beautiful,
And we’ll be married someday.”
If only she knew that that’s just what
Johnny wishes he could say.
Well Mary-Ellen, don’t you think
That you and Johnny should just be brave?
Mary-Ellen, if I were you,
Then here’s what I would do...
I’d say “Johnny I’ve always loved you;
Haven’t you always loved me too?
Why don’t we run away, Johnny?
Then we’ll be together our whole lives through...”
Mary-Ellen’s a married woman today;
She’s got Johnny by her side,
And they’re standing by the riverside
On this very special day.
Mary-Ellen’s so happy as she looks down
At her daughter’s big blue eyes.
Johnny smiles, and so it’s all okay,
And he holds her whilst she cries.
Well Mary-Ellen, don’t you think
That you and Johnny will be just fine?
Mary-Ellen, if I were you,
Then here’s what I would do...
I’d say “Johnny, I know times are rough;
We barely ever have enough.
But Johnny, things will get better;
One day it won’t be so tough.
We’ll sit under that old apple tree,
Thinking ‘bout how we used to be;
Just you and me; our lives ahead
But instead of two, there’ll be three
Mary-Ellen’s rocking in her chair today;
With Johnny holding her hand.
Life didn’t happen the way they planned,
But it worked out anyway.
Mary-Ellen says, “Look at us, love,
Trouble’s something we had lots of.
But in the end, we’re together,
So Johnny... I think that’s enough.”
Johnny says “I love you, Mary-Ellen,”
And I have since we were seven,
When we die, we’ll be side by side...
And I’ll wait for you in heaven.”
