The time approaches when Sims Medieval will be released (Tuesday), and I have a decision to make...
I don't think I'll have room on my pc with Sims 3 & all the future EP/SPs, so I'm thinking of uninstalling S2 from my craptop, and replacing it with this.
Should I do it? Should I really say goodbye to Sims 2?

Do you play it still? I'm the other way around, I mostly play sims 2 and then occasionally have a sims 3 jag before going back to sims 2. If they came out with more sims 2 expansion packs I'd be uninstalling Sims 3.
But if you have only been playing sims 3 then don't keep sims 2 just for nostalgia reasons if it won't fit.
I think it was more clear cut from sims 1 to sims 2. Most people made the jump and didn't look back apart from a little reminiscing. Everyone could see it was a huge improvement, but sims 2 to sims 3 is different as they have different game style type play. The scenery is better, but to me the sims look much worse. I find not being able to jump around to the different families in the hood a big downfall of sims 3. I hate sending my spares away to rot. I tried house hoping, but then they lose all there wants which annoys me greatly. Being able to go over and play spares the way I want is what draws me back to sims 2 every time. If that isn't a concern of yours, and I know you have the cc to make your sims look less like tubs of lard then I guess it might be time to uninstall. Maybe just make sure you know where all your TS2 disks are.

I agree with what Jo said. Who knows? You also may end up getting the medieval game and then soon realize it sort of sucks... like the whole sims stories series did after the initial excitement wears off and then you can always reinstall TS2 if you want. I still feel those pros and cons about the differences between 2 and 3. I sort, actually, like the fact that I only have one family I have be responsible for. I feel the need to have my hoods in sync and when you are forced to play all the families in a hood to have them grow and change, it feels like work to me sometimes...lol But on the other hand, I think there should be a choice of being able to be in control of a few special families while the rest of hood progresses. I guess I am sort of torn. Well, that went off the subject pretty quickly. Do what you want and have fun doing it Jill, but I wouldn't suggest giving those TS2 games away completely just yet. Put them away for safe-keeping in case you ever want to revisit them.

Well...I am with Jo, I like TS2 much better. Right now the on,y reason I play TS3 is for the DDRR. Who knows, that might change as time goes by. Don't get me wrong, there are Awesome things about TS3. The customize feature, the cool adveppnture aspects of WA, etc., but I don't like much else...right now. I know how much you like TS 3 Jill, so it's your decision. I would just suggest you, obviously back up your TS2 in case, like Tina said, the Medieval sucks Ass!

If only they could make it so you could switch families without losing all the wants it would be soo much better! Surely they could have done that? I still haven't got sim castaways. I've asked dh to get that for the last 3 years for a birthday or Christmas, but he never thinks to shop online and it seems rather frivolous to buy it for myself. Also you guys surprised me! I thought I was on my ownsome on this board liking TS2 better!

I've asked for Castaway a million times & never got it, either. Now it's not in stores anymore, so it would have to be an Ebay find. Did someone have that and not like it? I'd never give away my S2 game (I still have all my S1 games! Lol!) but I think I'll make a nice back up to save my S2 game, in case Medieval isn't as awesome as it looks. (I will have to throw someone into the pit with that killer plant at least once before I decide! Lol!) Did you guys all see the trailer in the Medieval thread? I know they don't use actual gameplay for those, but it still looked pretty cool & to not have to hunt all over for Medieval cc is VERY appealing to me. I don't know if I can get to the store Tuesday for it, so I probably won't even pick it up until Wednesday.

I thought I was on my ownsome on this board liking TS2 better! I've been pretty vocal, actually about liking it better. You're right Jill about the CC, but you can't use it for your regular TS3 game. I am sure someone at MATY will unlock them though. That's what they did for the Castaway stuff.

Yeah, I knew that. I like having it in the Medieval game & not having to stuff my S3 folder with it and end up with lag.
I love the S3 gameplay, and I don't mind losing the wants, because they pretty much throw up the same ones when you come back to them anyway. It's dumb that it has to be that way, but since I get them back, I don't worry about it.

You know I like S2 better, I still think S3 is over-priced and not enough of a jump forward from 2 for me to buy it yet. But if you're uninstalling but keeping any back-ups you want you can always give uninstalling a go and see what Medieval is like, Jilly? I think one of my friends had Castaway and was unimpressed. It was a little while back though, so I can't remember much in detail about it.

I have recently had the opportunity to play Castaway and I think it is the coolest of the 'Stories' games, but still... after the story is done, it gets rather lame. The MAIN issue I have with it is lot related. First, there is no abilty to place new lots, which would not bother me as much if the MAIN hood, the one you play the story in, had any residential lots to move sims into once the story is over. As you play the story, your sim first arrives on Castaway Beach. As they learn, explore, and find new things, they meet some other castaways, and the natives on the island. During all this, there are different tasks you are given to complete which unlock new items for freeplay. Your sim ends up moving into several different lots during the play and winds up living on one of the worst ones ever at the end of the game. It is bad because it is one of the most difficult lots to expand if you have a family and need more room. When the story is over and you go into free play, you discover that ALL SIX, I think, of the other castaways are in the sim bin, along with whichever character (there is a choice of a guy and a girl) you didn't play during the story, or BOTH if you played a sim you made. The problem with that is that there are NO residential lots to put them on! Crazy, eh? All the places your sim lived except the last one, plus the lot the castaways were on are all community lots, which makes no sense to me. Go figure EA! lol I did, however, learn how to make some community lots into residential ones in SimPE, but still. The bottom line is this: It hardly took me any time at all to get bored with the game and now my poor simself and her new hubby (the story forces you to marry) are living on that crappy lot with their orangatan (the game forces you to adopt), without me around to progress them forward in life... poor little simmies! I figure I may pop back in and play some more one day, but I have simply lost interest for now. BTW, I bought the game for Crissy for her birthday last January. It is NOT easy to find one bit for sure! But I did manage to find it on Amazon, a used copy, but as long as it works, that was good enough for us. LOL... Jill, I still have my sims 1 games too! I'm sure I will never play them again, but I still have them.

Thanks for the review on Castaways Tina! I'd still like a copy though! But no residential lots? Typical EA all over. I still have all my Sims 1 disks too. ;D Holley I know you did favour TS2, but I thought WA had wooed you over to the other side. Amy, I wasn't sure if you had TS3 yet.

I think my biggest gripe wth S3 is lot placement. I liked being able to plunk them down where i wanted, and S3 really makes it tough. If they recreate Makin' Magic from S1, they'll officially own my soul! Lol!
And thanks for that Castaway run-thru. It sounds very similar to a console game version of the sims.
Well, I think I'm going to do it. I'll save my back up, uninstall, and put Medieval on ole' crappy, my craptop. I'll let you guys have my review sometime later, as I won't be able tp pick it up until Wed, and I probably won't get around to installing for a few days.

I don't really understand lot placement or why in Riverview it shows lots but when I click on the man and went to place him, why some of the lots became invisible and I can't place him on any of those. It's not the price, the lot icon disappears when I select a sim from the bin.

I've had that happen - I think it only lets you place a sim on an empty lot if you're playing them. If you do it from edit town with a sim you're not actually playing, it won't let you put them on a lot that doesn't have a bathroom or something like that.
I guess it figures if you're playing that sim, you'll build them a bathroom.

I can't wait to see what you think of the Medieval game. Make sure your TS2 back up is actually there before you uninstal!
