Okay, now before you get all excited and think, "Oh awesome! Tina has written an awesome Halloween story!" I have to warn you that this was orginally written by me on Oct 23, 1978. I was 15 years old and it was for English class. While I did make an A on it, it is not as well-written as I would do it now...lol. I have left this one in its orginal form (except for typing it out because it was hand-written..lol) The teacher put a note on it that said I needed to vary my sentence structure and she was right...lol!
Well without further ado, I present to you,
A Very Scary Halloween
One dark, spooky Halloween night, a friend of mine, Lori Faircloth, and I went to a Halloween party. On the way home, we were laughing and talking about the nice time we had. It was only 7:30pm, so there was still a few trick or treaters out. As we were walking along we saw kids in all kinds of weird Halloween costumes go by. Some of them tried to scare us.
We had not walked very far when we started hearing all kinds of strange noises. We looked around to see where they were coming from. We saw a huge spooky-looking house. It seemed that the sounds were coming from there. Just then, we heard a wicked laugh and a high-pitched scream. It sounded like someone was in serious trouble.
Lori and I got very nervous. Although we were scared, we had to go see if anyone was hurt. We went up to the door knocked. No one answered. I opened the door and looked inside. I did not see anyone, so we went in.
Lori wanted to look in the cellar first. She went down and I followed. The cellar was very dimly lit. We saw and old cedar chest. Like a dummy, I walked over and opened it and when I looked down, I got a terrible shock. There was a vampire looking up at me like he was mad for having been disturbed! I was so frightened I could not move. The vampire sat up and simply said, “Don’t be frightened. I only want to suck your blood!”
That did it! I started to run up those stairs so fast that I almost lost Lori on the way. We ran to the door. It was locked! We started beating on the door and screaming at the top of our lungs. No one came.
We decided to look for another way out. Lori went over to a door and opened it. A dead man fell out! She screamed and ran over to where I was. We decided to look upstairs. The long, narrow stair case creaked as we went up. There was a long hall at the top of the stairs. At the end of the hall, there was a large wooden door.
Lori and I went to the door and tried to open it. It was locked. As we started to walk away, we heard a screeching sound. We looked around and the door was open! I looked in and did not see anything unusual. I started into the room with Lori close behind. Around the walls there was several doors lined in a row. Lori and I started opening the doors and looking inside. Most of them were just closets with nothing in them. When we got to the last door, we found a little change in the pattern. We opened the door and saw a skeleton hanging by a rope.
Suddenly there was the sound of someone laughing; the same wicked laugh we had heard before. It was coming from right behind us! We both spun around to face the strangest-looking woman I had ever seen in my life. Her skin was a bright green! She had shoulder-length jet-black hair. It was all matted and stringy. She had a long pointed nose with a wart on the end of it. She started toward us and we froze. She asked us what we were doing in her house. She said she would make us sorry for snooping around on her property. She started threatening to lock us up in the closet until we looked like the skeleton that was already in there. Lori and I were so scared we just ran down the stairs to the door, forgetting it was locked. We turned the knob and the door came open! We ran out into the cool night air trying to catch our breath.
As we started walking away, I glanced back at the house. When I did, I saw a small sign painted in red letters. It read; The Haunted House. Come in and see our many horrors. It will scare the daylights out of you! Open Oct 31, Halloween night.
I showed it to Lori and she started to laugh. We both laughed all the way home. But I am sure that inside, we both felt very foolish for thinking something like that could have actually been for real!
