I have to ask.... what does that mean? Sounds ominous.

That was the day the Mayans said the world was going to end. I saw this all over Facebook awhile ago.

Yeah, I think it's a coincidence myself, but I guess you never know.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing all that sort of thing as well. If you think hard enough about anything, you can compare it to something else and make something out of it. But... I am old enough and have lived long enough to know that the world eventually ends for all of us individually, one way or another. So... the way I see it is: There is no point in worrying about things like this because whatever will be will be. All you can do is live life to the best of your ability, enjoy what you have while you have it, and make the most of the time you have here on this earth. In the end, that is all any of us can do.

What I read and am inclined to believe is that people have misread what the Mayans meant, only that they didn't say it was the end of the world at all, it was simply as far as they took their calendar. I wouldn't read too much into what numbers add up to.

It's freaky that the numbers add up, but why just those two disasters? One's human, one's a natural disaster, neither include attacks on London, floods in the lower pacific, earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, political wars, countless other disasters that have happened in the last 10 years. I'm more one for believing in coincidence than ancient prophecy, to be honest. And I second Tina's sentiments, and the group hug.

But there was some guy name Nostradamus that has predicted all these disasters...and he was a scientist like 1,000 years ago. He predicted all the world wars, 9/11 hurricane Katrina and Ike, many of the major earthquakes and volcano eruptions and some other things....I don't know it just kinda makes you think because How could he predict all these things that have happened 1,000 years ago? Just shakes me up a little :/
But what I think scientist have said is on that day all the planets will be in a straight line or something like that. and they don't know what will happen. one said that Jupiter and Venus gravity might pull the earth in different directions and rip earth apart...idk i saw this all on a 2021 special.
and plus the Mayans were very advanced. In some of the ancient ruins there were cars and airplane toys lying around...

Oh yeah, I know all about Nostradamus (or however his named is spelled...lol) My brother is sort of a fanatic on all those kinds of things. I have also heard that theory of 2012, about the planets, etc. I still stick with my original sentiment on all that.... I also remember back in 1999, on New Year's Eve, when it was predicted that all the world's computers would go out of whack, causing the world to be tossed into chaos, because no one had thought to program numbers in the 2000s on them, but that didn't happen either. The world carried on as it always has. Of course, I do believe there is a handful of people around who have the ability to predict future events, but even if their predictions come to pass, it is still only a matter of how it is interpreted. I mean, who can know, for sure, what something like that really means? Amylu has a point also about all the other disasters in the world and I also thought about the fact that the thing in Japan was an act of God and the 9/11 thing was purely an act of human evil. Great topic, btw, Brianna! We rarely have such philosophical discussions here. It's sort of nice for a change.

LOL Tina that 1999 thing, I was standing next to ATMs waiting for cash to fly out (ok not really but I thought about it!)
Your words were too beautiful and perfect and I couldn't agree more.
Bri: Numbers can be a very scary thing and can really make you worry about many things there is no cause to. I have my BF fretting over the number 227 because I told him I always notice the clock at this time and say a small prayer for Owen Hart (former WWF wrestler). See that was the weight he maintained during his career and his death really hit me hard. I don't know why that number above all stuck with me but I was a huge fan. My BF feels the number is ominous when in reality it's just something I've made my own sort of way of wishing well to his family. Not only that the numbers add up to 11 which is a lucky number.
What I am trying to say which may get lost in translation, I second what Tina said: anyone can form an opinion about someone else's opinion or belief. I wouldn't fret too much!

I definitely believe there are those who can predict the future, and I love watching those shows about Nostrodamas & 2012. I don't spend time worrying about it all (see above posts) but I find all the research fascinating!
I actually wrote a short story about the apocalypse from stuff in the Book of Revelations. It's based on a true fact - there is a town in the middle east named Har Meggido (Armegeddon), where it's all supposed to start.

Well now that I think about it, the world, as a whole, will never really just end....
Like the chances of the world blowing up into a million pieces is very slim, but do I have some fear that in 2012 something will wipe out the human race. At the rate this world is going its going to be something big...
We have never really had such catastrophic natural disasters back to back. And with all the evidence of global warming, increased movement in the tectonic plates (hence the reasons for the earthquakes in Japan and New Zealand), the wearing away of our magnetic field and Ozone layer, we need to just take a second and stop and change our patterns before mother nature kicks our ass worst that she already has. Or it will cost us all of our lives...

Earth has been around for so long, it has been through volcanic meltdowns, ice ages, and much more. Bad things happen, you can't stop it, but it always seems to recover and life starts anew again.
I wouldn't fret about it too much over something that is out of our control.
As for the Mayan calendar, there were predictions that even though they were quite advanced, their calendars could be off as much as fifty years or more.
Is the world coming to an end? I don't believe that. Could this be the end of the human race? Could be possible... The only way we will know for sure is when we see it for our own eyes.
