Wow, that sounds interesting! I haven't opened my game lately, so I haven't seen that before. I did read something a while back about a hood creator tool in the works, though.

I've been following some threads about this, and it's apparently not very intuitive to use correctly. (Roads not connecting properly, earth pushing through said roads, crooked sidewalks, etc.)

The exchange's 'hood downloader' is quite crappy to say the least. DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING FROM THERE! If you try to 'view asset' it takes you to an error report about Java. I'm very disappointed with this crap you gave us, EA. But not surprised.

I was looking at some of these on the Ex today. Most of them you couldn't even view unless you download them, & I didn't feel comfortable downloading something I couldn't see first.
If they can get this worked out, we might finally be able to have that DD hood we talked about. One person can make the hood, and we can all submit lots for it. Then the hood creator can put it all together and upload it for all of us. IF they get it worked out...

It doesn't surprise me either. EAxis is always screwing up their own stuff. They also have to poop on everyone else's party in the process. Look how at how the TS2 Exchange is so screwed up all the time now. It's ridiculous to leave it all screwed up for so long.

There's just no reason for the problems they're having on the S2 Ex.
It looks like the hoods being created are a mess, and from what Sawyer says, downloading them is a mess, too. Basically, you don't know who built the hood you're downloading. You might get one from a kid who doesn't know what a rabbit hole or beautiful vista is, and either didn't place them, or placed them incorrectly. I didn't read thru the whole 8 page instruction document, but I imagine there must be seed/bug/insect/fish generators, etc.
The instructions talk as though you already know what those things are. If it wasn't for the folks on DD discussing it, I wouldn't have a clue myself. So if some 8yr old who knows nothing about these decides to try this, you really have no way of knowing if you're getting a functioning hood until you install it.
I was just curious if anyone downloaded this tool and gave a shot to building a hood with it. I was tempted to give it a shot, but I don't know if I have enough knowledge to pull it off.
(I've added links to the first post if anyone is interested)

I don't know why, but I am downloading this. I like the idea of being able to make a hood from scratch, even though I haven't opened sims 3 for ages. But gosh that walkthough. What a lot of things you have to get right. I wouldn't even think an 8 year old would attempt it, well I know mine certainly wouldn't. Not as something to upload. I could see her playing with it, but why on earth would you upload it?

Hmm, I must say those instructions are very . . . interesting. They are not rocket science, but they are not for eight-year-olds either. I have't been to the exchange to see any of the lots others created, but I did read in the instructions it said to take a screen shot of your world so that others can see it on the exchange. If you can't see it there, then thos people didn't follow those instructions. Someday, I may try to build my own world, but right now the worlds I have are fine with me...lol. One thing I will NEVER do, though, is download any worlds from the exchange! You never know what sort of mess some of those kids will upload. If I ever do download a world, it will be from a trusted creator from a site such as MTS or something. That way, I figure I'll be getting a workable world.

Hi,
I know it's been a long time since I've posted... no excuses, just life being super busy
anyway, I eagerly downloaded a couple of hoods that looked interesting on the exchange... so far, only tried one... the person who made the hood had all sorts of terrain and then plopped a lot from a flat terrain onto the map... so it was a nicely shaped map... with rectangular plateaus upon which the buildings were placed... so not impressive I must say. There are some other maps being uploaded on other sites as well... but given my exp with this one... I'm going to wait a while and let one of the experienced people do it
so, I'll be deleting that map ASAP
how was everyone's holiday? We are going to Vegas for a family reunion on the 2nd! that is our holiday.

Hey Kim, it's great to see posting! ;D Life CAN get super busy on you all at once. I know I've been more busy than I'd like to be lately with Chrismas and all. Phew... I'm glad that's over! Anyway, thanks for that info! It only solidifies what has already been mentioned in this thread. It's a GREAT idea to wait to download any hoods until and unless they are by someone who you feel knows what he/she is doing. From reading that tutorial, you can tell there is a LOT involved in the building of a Sims 3 hood. Vega, eh? Wow, that sounds exciting! I hope you have great time there! Of course, I'm sure you will. My holiday was pretty nice actually. I got and gave lots of cool gifts, ate too much, and now I'm enjoying playing with my cool toys! ;D

I've been playing around in the CAW, but frankly, I hate it. It takes so much time to actually create a good world, that it's not worth it. I try getting into one world, but my interests change, and I move on to another. Also, the roads are ridiculous to use. So much goes into actually making a connecting roadway system, that again, it's NOT worth it.

Well, the instructions are LONG and seem way too complicated to me for it to be worth it. Besides that, I'm perfectly happy with the hoods I have anyway...lol
