Well, I had my first Orthodontist appointment today. Turns out I have a 100% overbite, minimal crowding, and caved in sides. I get braces either December 23, or January 19. Blech.

Hehe, that sucks. They wanted me to get braces but I do not like things in my mouth, get canker sores frequently (whic would be escalated by braces) and no money for them... But srsly, I feel you pain... in an empathetic way.

Bad luck Sawyer. I hope by getting Sarah a plate now she will avoid braces in future. Still cost us $600 though! Our health cover should pay for some, but the dentist was suppose to do up this health plan letter which they hadn't done and we had to pay out of pocket on the day because our health plan card declined, because of that. Now we will have to wait to get our money back.

Yuck, I had to wear braces for three years so I feel your pain. Hopefully you won't have to get them till after Christmas because for a few days after you get them it hurts a lot to eat. At least it did for me.

These babies cost 3600, and we have to pay 350 on the 23rd. And my mom is using this as an excuse to be mad at me. She's acting like I wanted them for Christmas. Oh yeah, what everybody wants for Christmas, a metal wire in their teeth.

Yikes! I really, really hope a plate works for Sarah then. Have you seen those? Plastic thing with a little bit of wire that you can take in and out and sits against the roof of the mouth. You have to be between 8-9 for this to work though. apparently by 10 all the cartilage is replaced by bone. Shame you weren't told about a plate when you were younger Sawyer.

Lol, I've never heard of that. It sounds like a retainer. But don't you think it's unfair that my mom thinks thats my christmas stuff?!

Could be, I don't know. It's called a dental plate over here. She had to bite down on some putty stuff and they made it from the mold. It has this 'key' that once she is use to wearing it most of the time, goes in a little hole and tightens it a very tiny bit twice a week.
As to the other, yeah, but I was trying to avoid that. I don't like saying what other mums are doing is bad. She's probably just stressed at paying that at Christmas. She did just buy you a piano.

I know, but gahh! Man period. Nevermind... Seriously though, my mind is like a big bottle of angst right now. So yeah... It's okay, you can say whatever you want about my mom.

I have to agree with Jo, she was probably just stressed about the money. Sorry to hear about your braces. I luckily never had to get them.
Honestly Sawyer, I am surprised you are getting them. You know that will affect your aperture with your Oboe and stuff. If your serious about your music you should have a talk with the dentist about how it will affect your playing. I had friends in band who didn't get them because they were afraid it would affect their playing.

Lol sawyer, I'm not going to do that. I don't know her and she has her reasons, even if it's just being mad at shelling out so much. You should know by now I try and see all sides and don't like judging other people unless I know they are guilty of something pretty terrible. As far as 'man periods' go. No way! Hmph that's a woman's prerogative to grouch all she likes over cycles or AF. Kind of like child birth. hallowed ground boy.

Well, both my girls were in band. One played the clarinet and the base clarinet, and the other played the flute. They BOTH got braces when they were just a bit older than you, Sawyer. Talk about EXPENSIVE! But, thank goodness, at the time, we had insurance to help pay for it. Now, my girls' braces are off and they both look beautiful! I never had to have braces, thank goodnes, but as painful and annoying as they sometimes were for them, my girls are thrilled to have beautiful smiles now. So, it was all worth it in the end. They still have to wear their retainers (which does sound very much like your dd's plate, Jo) at night, but that shouldn't be necessary too much longer. And Sawyer, about your mom, I can guarantee you that she is a bit stressed out about having to pay all that money, especially right here at the holidays. Chances are, she isn't really mad at you, but annoyed by the situation. And, as you have already said, you have been pretty spoiled lately with getting those 'early Christmas gifts', so you really should try to give your mom a bit of understanding. Not getting braces won't kill you, you know? Therefore, she doesn't have to do it for you. She's doing it because she loves you and cares about your future and wants you to be happy in the long run. Hang in there! It will be alright.

Oh yeah, they were a couple of band geeks! I think it helped them turn out to be the good girls they are today. *sniff* I'm so proud of them!
