Has anyone seen this on the news yet? It's a dormant windows virus called "conficker", and it's supposed to be a bad one, hiting tomorrow, April 1st. (Yeah, April Fool's Day) to anyone with windows as their OS. The news said if all your windows updates are current, as well as your virus protection, you should be OK. Definitely worth a trip to Microsoft's homepage to make sure you have the latest update! I'm leaving for work now, so maybe someone has more info they can add?

Thanks Jilly! I haven't heard anything about it yet, but then again, I don't watch the news very often.
It's good to be on the alert, so thanks again. I'll certainly add more if I hear anything.

How would the virus get to every computer, is there some sort of trigger?

Well, they say it was probably put into many computers months ago, and the only thing it's waiting for is instructions. It's supposed to seek instructions from it's source tomorrow. If you go to Microsoft.com, they have a section on it, and a free scan you can download.

;)For Jo & me it is now today, & yes we have been warned over & over on the News & Net, I just checked & because of my new motherboard I am all up to date with Microsoft & 'ZONE ALARM' discovered something awhile back & quarantined it, so I got ZA to get rid of it! I think maybe it was this one, 'The April Fool Virus' as it is being called, ???Jo, if you can not get into Microsoft that is a bad thing,Tina do you know what it is? as I read up on it & it is very malicious! >:(WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THIS?

I posted some links above that I googled. That's about all I know about it. And yeah, that's why I asked her which link she can't get to. If it's just the Microsoft one, that's not a good sign. Some people are jerks with nothing better to do than to try and ruin everyone else's day! That's the only reason I can think of why someone would do something this.

I got into Mircrosoft, but the link saying more info did a 404 error message.
My AVG says it's up to date.

Which link for more info? There are a couple of different ones on the Microsoft page and they all work for me. Oh and it's actually the Microsoft Update page that the virus won't let you open. It doesn't want you to be able to download updates or tools to remove it.
