~THE LITTLE WHITE CHURCH!~[/glow]
~Many moons ago, this beautiful little church, sitting high,on the bluff, overlooking the sea, was visited by all!
~It was the place were the town came together, all functions were held here & in it's Glory days it was richly furbished, it was a joyous place to be, full of sunshine & light & the view was always spectacular, no matter the time or season!
~Past generations are buried here in what was once a well tended & glorious garden, a peaceful resting place, for all!
~By & by, Time past peacefully & pleasantly, until the war!
~Many of the young men were called to arms, leaving there family & loved ones behind!
~ On one bright & sunny day as a young lass Mary McDermott,on her usual ritual of cleaning the Church, singing softly to herself as she made the honey colored wood shine like the the sun above, was interrupted by the parson of the church,he sadly told her to sit & then told her, her Fiance would never return to marry her, that his life had expired on the battle field, long before the physicians could get to him!
~ Mary seemed to take it well, without tears, she went back to cleaning the gleaming Church, the parson excused her for the day & tried to get her to go home to her family for comfort in her sorrow, she shook her head & went about re-arranging the perfectly arranged flowers!.........Not a sound past her lips!
~The parson stood watching her for awhile, to be off assistance when the news finally sunk-in! he was certain she was ether in denial or shock & there would be a delayed reaction!
~ The parson gave up after several hours, as she fluttered around the Church as she normally did,he had sermons to prepare for Sundays coming meetings, he failed to notice one differance!...........her beautiful voice, that softly filled the Church as she went about her chores, was not to be heard, & from that day forth, never more!
~ She was finally left on her own, she quickly made her way to the second floor & climbed the ladder up the Bell Tower,on reaching the top, she laid a kiss to the wind & threw her self off!
~ Much later her body was discovered by the parson,he was shocked at what had transpired & ashamed of himself, for not seeing her sorrow, he quietly went a removed the ladder to the tower & would later have someone remove the rope to the bell, so the floors above could be sealed off,so this can never happen again!
~ All the towns people came to Mary's funeral, & bid her farewell as she was well liked & loved because of her devotion to the Church!
~ She came from a well to-do Family & had no need to work & could well afford to employ some-one else to do the chores around the Church, to salve her charitable conscience, but preferred to do the work her self with devotion to every detail!
~ She delighted in something that she was unable to achieve at her parents home, were they were catered too, by a bevy of servants, for there every need & whim!
~ Over time, a strange thing was observed by all whom frequented the Church, the flowers never died in their vases & the Church was always clean & gleaming as if freshly polished, even though no one had replace Mary, who gave of her time freely!
~ One sunny day the Bell in the tower began to ring & it's loud somber notes were heard for an hour, without ceasing!
~ All the town folk gathered, fearing the worst as the Bell had long been boarded up,but everyone was at a lose, on inspecting the tower, that was still tightly sealed!
~ The towns people endured the bells ringing, without cause, three times a year!
~ They all knew, that one bell ringing was at the exact time that Mary's wedding, was meant to be held, in the little white church!
~ There was Vague guesses at the significance of the other two!
~ The towns folk, have long stopped going to the little white church, & for many years it has been abandoned & vandalized & the grounds left to the weeds & brambles!
~ Though to step inside the Church, one would think it was newly built, as there is no dust to be seen, the flowers are long gone, as the vases were removed, either sold or stolen, along with the furnishings, only the built in fixtures remain & the Bell in the tower that gleams as if new!
~ At some stage two urns appeared at the front of the Church & are still there to this day!
