That's what dh says. Which I agree with of course. Just wish she could get over this 'fear' (she says she is scared of people looking at her middle) I told her it's not the same as walking down the shops. But she is crying over this stupid costume. What to do, it's full dress rehearsal day today. I have to go make her face up with way too much makeup for my liking. Now she may only be wearing her one costume and not the other.

Awww... the poor little thing. I'll tell you something; once a kid gets a notion in the head, it stays there for a while. I wonder what makes her think it's so bad? Usually a child that age does't think too much about things like that. Maybe she saw something on tv or something that caused her fear. I feel for ya Jo. You got a bit of a tough situation on your hands there.

Well when we get clothes we do look for things that cover her middle. But I didn't think she would be so bothered by this costume. My telling her it's fine isn't helping. I wish I was better at this make up stuff too! Have you ever tried to put mascara on a 7 year old!!

Only on Halloween! Once I even put these long, glittering, false eyelashes on Crissy... I forget what she was now, a princess or gypsy or something. ;D Maybe telling her it's only a costume and it's for pretend will help. Find a picture of Jeanie on I Dream of Jeanie or something and show it to her. Or maybe some pictures of other little girls in similar costumes. Maybe then she would feel better if she knew she wasn't the only one to ever wear something like it. Hmmm... I don't know.

Someone at school probably said somethiong that made her not want to do it........ Like
My momma says if your belly shows you look like a hootchie mama....... Thats all it takes for a kid to fear something.....

That's just it she does know. All the other little girls in her Jazz class are wearing the same thing! I tell ya this kid is as stuborn as her mother Any mascara tips? Would help if I used the stuff which I don't. Eyes open right? How do you not get it on the eyelid *gah!* I think this will be the last year we do this unless she begs me.

Just go slow and easy on the macara. Make sure she knows to sit very still if she doesn't want her eye poked out! Are you talking eyeliner too? Is that what you mean about lids? Make her close her eyes for the upper lid and use one hand to stretch it to the outside a little bit. Again she needs to sit still for it. How badly does she want to do this thing? If she really wants to, one other way of handling the costume issue is to just flatly tell her she IS going to wear it, or you're not going to go. *shrugs* I'll tell ya Jo... one thing I never did was take any crap from my kids. They did what I told them or else... I'd tell her it doesn't matter to you whether you go or not (even if it does...lol) Sometimes you have to use psychology on the little ones.

Lol yeah I can be a bit of a softie at times. We only started dance and the end of year concert because I thought it would be good for her because we homeschool. I have decided after this she will have to really want to do the concert before we go through all this again. She does sit fairly still, I am just no good at it! Which is funny since I can decorate a cake. There is eyeliner, but that only is for a flick from the corner up, that part is actually the easiest. Well my friend just came to pick her up, she is a helper there for the day. Hope it goes ok. Would of been better if the dance teacher rang me back, after I left two messages on her answering machine. So I pinned a note on her costume, what else can I do.

Well, sometimes someone else can get your kids to do something that you can't so... maybe the teacher or your friend can get her to cooperate. You never know. I have babysat for children who were total BRATS when their parents were around, but they were as good as gold for me. Like I said though, I don't take any crap from kids. Funny thing is, kids adore me anyway!

Yeah.
Try telling her that she only has to do it once. Might work?

Seems like wearing the stocking will be ok. I have to talk to my friend tomorrow. Seems like it was very hectic and disorganized there today. Concert goes for two nights, next Friday and Saturday night. I will take and post some pics.
