Welcome! Canada is awesome. We've been there quite a bit- mainly Quebec. My father's family is from there.

I don't mean people are mean towards us but I know a lot of people make fun of us I know it's only because the way we are shown in movies or tv shows but it's okay. They often laughed of us in the simpsons and I guess the funniest one was when they come in canada for medicine. they exchange medicines for dvd players... we do have dvds here too and we know what it is that's what I meant sorry if you thought I thought it was bad ... now it seems confused maybe but it is clear in my mind ... Maybe that's an American thing, because I've never heard of Canadians being made fun off. Actually Canada doesn't seem to come up at all here. Maybe that's bad or good I don't know.

Both... and we usually stay in the city when we go up there. I love the Christmas shop. I once saw a hairy guy in speedos jogging thru downtown at 6 am and honestly, it's an image I will not forget. He was very comfortable with himself! quebec province or city?? cause I'm from the province

Wow, thanks everybody! And I will definitely post a link to my legacy soon, although it switched recently from the exchange to livejournal, so that may be a bit confusing. And Jo, the Canadians being made fun of is definitely a North American thing. We do get teased, but it's mostly about weird stuff. Like the way we say about...but I've never heard anyway say aboot. That's just weird. I think it might be the maritimes, and even the rest of Canada never thinks about them...lol. But we make fun of Americans too, so it's even. And Britain makes fun of everyone, 'cause that's what Britain does. But I do love Canada, it's a pretty cool place, haven't been to all of it. Only Saskatchewan, Quebec and Ontario. Tina that's cool about watching your Canadian counterpart school bus, lol, kinda weird. Okay, that's all I can think of for replies Anyway, thanks for welcoming me!

You're welcome! It's great to have you here! ;D I see you've posted your links. Thanks for that! I'm hoping to get around to get caught up on all that's been happening in your legacy soon. First, I need to force myself to get busy working on mine. I've been out of commission so long that it's very hard to back into the swing of things! It was pretty interesting to me as a ten year old kid to see the other school bus across the river! I used to pretend like we were in a race...lol!

Ack! For some reason, I just now noticed the hairy guy in speedos remark. Ewwww! Hey Jess... that's aboot thing is pretty funny because I've never heard a Canadian say it like that, but I lived near Richmond, Virginia (in the USA) when I was a kid and THAT is exactly how they say it! A little girl I knew used to come over to the house and ask, 'Can Tina come oot to play?" ;D My dad used to say that Virginians would say, "There's a moose in the hoose, get him oot, get him oot!" LOL

I think it's HORRIBLE when people actually make fun of anyone's accent! I mean, EVERYONE has some sort of accent, ya know? I learned at a really young age how hurtful being teased for an accent can be. Like I said earlier in this thread, I used to live in Michigan. Well I am southern born and bred so I, of course, have one of those 'southern drawls'. Anyway, those kids at school in Michigan teased me mercilessly about my accent and actually shunned me. I spent my recess time sitting alone somewhere in the playgroud fighting back tears one day because a couple of girls walked by and I heard one of them say, "She doesn't have any friends. She's just a dumb ol' hillbilly anyway!" Children can be VERY cruel and thoughtless. Heck I'd never lived 'in the hills' in my life! Too bad I didn't have the personality I have today. I probably would have jumped up and beaten the crap out of her! ;D

wow thats bad. I am not that bad. I don't really laugh at them that way I don't even tell them what I think I know it's hard to speak another langage. I tried spanish once and heck it's hard to speak like them. I know people from other countries who try to speak french they have accents but at least they try and actually some accents are quite nice like the english accent. And like you said everyone has an accent for someone else

Hey Mae! *waves* I didn't post that because of your saying you laugh at someone..lol. Everyone does that.. but those were kids and kids can be the most cruel little humans sometimes. My brother used to get into fights at that school and get into trouble, but I was the quiet, shy one who never said anything. I made excellent grades so I wasn't dumb by any means... Some kids just don't have any manners or consideration at all. I always taught mine to never do anything stupid like that. BTW, Jess, I didn't mean to take your thread off into a whole new direction! Sorry... lol
