Somehow I managed to erase my user name and password from the start up, I went to sign on and both fields were empty. So I tried to get my password sent and it says "Sent the alternative email you gave us" Oh heck! I have no idea what that was! And why would I use an alternative! I tried my common passwords and it just says it's invalid, so maybe the password on Aim is some weird configuration they sent me on sign up.
Sawyer do you know anything about this?

Sawyer may know, but I know nothing about the way AIM works. I've never used it. I would imagine, though, that it's the same as about anything else. A lot of things like that ask for alternative email addys. Too bad it doesn't have a secret question to use to retrieve your password.
Try to think of what email addreses you may have had when you first signed up for AIM.

Did you get it sorted, Jo?
I would imagine the alternative email addy it talks about would be the one you used to sign up for AIM in the first place.

No it's not sorted because I don't know how to find where this email would be! If it is a hotmail one, is there a site? How do I go about finding it?

Did you try looking at your JoanneReidel@bigpond.com or whatever that is? Try JoandSarah77 as a passcode too!

Sawyer my email was the first thing I checked, 6 rimes over repeting the send password thingame. How do you know my email and one of my passwords? I'm obliviously too slack, if you can figure that out someone after my identity could steal it. man. I've tried all the passwords I can think off! And I did manage to find an unused hotmail acount by Gooling 'hotmail' and the password isn't there, don't tell me I have a thirdemail address lurking somewhere.

Oh man Jo... you don't use your username as a password too, do you? If so, you should NEVER, EVER do that! People trying to hack into your accounts at various places could figure that out quite easily. If you have it as a password anywhere, you should change it, immediately if not sooner! As far as your lost password trouble on AIM, I have no clue what else to tell you. Were you signed into on any other computer, like you DH's laptop or anything? If so, maybe its still on there and you could get it back that way.

Sorry, I'm no help either. I try to save the emails from when I sign up somewhere new, cuz I'm terrible at remembering what I used. It took me forever to find the email from LJ - I always kept myself signed in, so I never used it. The last time I went there, it asked me for my password & I had no clue!

I think I have used that user name as a password, But not anyplace I thought was important. I can't remember! *Bangs stupid missplaced brain cells* I have a shocking memory for stuff like this. I even have trouble remembering our home phone number. Yet I can remember other stuff from back when I was 2! I guess I will have to rejoin and change my user name and tell everyone it's changed. *sigh*

Well Jo, you really should do what Jill does and what I also do. I have a folder where I save all my passwords and log-in info just incase I ever forget one. I'm not so good at remembering either.

Well i rejoined hoping it would show this 'alternate' email address, nope. Apart from the one AIM sets up, but if the info on my password went to an AIM one then it's useless as you can't access it without the password and when you ask it for a reminder it says it goes to the alternate email address! I just don't get it! I'm going bonkers!! Of course i can't remember how to add my buddies back either.

I've had that happen to me on there as well, I've lost 2 (or is it 3) accounts several years on there. I knew my password and username, but it wouldn't let me sign in...maybe that is what happened, rather than just forgetting your password? I've heard it has happened to others as well on there. In fact, I lost my last one about 6 weeks ago. I don't keep passwords saved in a folder on my computer, I keep them in a good notebook that it hidden away safely (as well as other important things) and is updated as I change passwords or sign up on sites.
